i saw driving yesterday and my car just shuts off. i managed to pull it into a parking lot. when i tried to start it, it would start but as the RPMs dropped back down after the start the car would shut off. i ended up popping the hood for a look. turns out my filter and MAF housing removed themselves from the intake tube. oops.

question is this: what kind of damage may have been done to the engine in this situation? could something have got into it through the tube?

also, anyone have any tricks to get a better, tighter fit between the MAF housing and the intake tube? im pretty sure it was tightened all the way and maybe fell off cuz the tube is metal. is there like tape or something i can put on the tube for better grip?

thanks for the help guys...

It's probably fine. Just reattach it and go. Isn't the MAF sensor supposed to be mounted to a bracket to keep it from moving around? I don't see how it would just fall off.
