I have the S shifter, no SST... yet (as i recently discovered an upgrade is available :-D) but my problem is strange... I can put the shifter into D4 but there is no change at all from D5. and if I shift up through 1 - 2 - 3 - when it hits the D4 position it reads D5 on my HUD and acts just like its in D5, even though the shifter is clearly in D4. So... i really don't seem to have a D4. whats up wit dat?

It almost sounds like your PCM has already been flashed with an SST-enabled program. When you slap the SST shifter from D5 over into SST mode, it stays in D5; if your PCM were flashed for the SST shifter, when your non-SST shifter is shifted to D4, it would stay in D5, but then when you downshift to 3, it's still telling the PCM to go to 3. Maybe. I don't know of anyone who's gone from SST to non-SST, so I don't know of any way to confirm this, other than to install an SST shifter and see if D4 is D4 (if your PCM isn't reflashed with an SST-enabled program, D4 will show as 3).

My car had the exact same problem. I drove like that for a while tranny shifted fine. I ended up buying a SST shifter from someone on here. I believe its a problem with the shifter itself.

well hopefully i can find a deal on one here, i certainly won't miss D4 if i can do the upgrade... seeing as mine isn't there anyway. other than that it drives and shifts perfectly fine.

I have a 2000 LS

I just came in off the highway and my transmission shifted from 5th to 3rd. It shifts from 1,2,3, but no 4 then 5th. I had a new solenoid block put in and a speed sensor and still no 4th. It had no shavings of any type in the filter and pan. Is this common in the 2000 LS? We are the 2nd owners of the car and it is in great shape, until this. Any ideas on what else can be wrong?
I sure appreciate any help I can get.

Our first LS (2000 V6) had the same problem, so we just wound up dropping it off to the dealership and they took care of it. I don't remember exactly what was replaced though, so can't help you out. I do know it was very involved, cause they had the car for few weeks. I didn't mind it though, they gave us an Aviator as a loaner car.
