Im pretty bored right now so I feel like tossing up a WIP of a grille Im working on.

Its a 03+ that I had got off of member 02lsV8sport.

Im filling in the emblem space and matching the chrome surround to my paint.

So far I have used 3M brand body filler. I sanded down the grille pretty good before doing it and I used a wire brush bit for my dremel to scuff the area the fill was going real good.

So far I had one foul up with the primer not adhering properly so I have to go over it again with some more filler since some of it sanded down while removing the rest of the primer that was left on.

After I put down some more filler and smooth it back out on the edges Im going to use some fiberglass resin epoxy this time around as a top coat.

What I think Im going to do-still undecided-is make a classy Lincoln logo stencil and paint it on by hand before the clear goes on rather than have no emblem at all or have a really good pin stripe artist do one up but not with the fancy elegant curves and swoops and all. Just something classy but very plain.. But again thats up in the air.

I will be doing the same to my rear surround depending on how this goes also.

Good start. I'm excited to see how this turns out I've been thinking about something like this.

Digging the old stove and grey walker in the pic.

Well, the old stove was left behind. Its gunna be a good stove to use for projects.

And thats no effin walker man! Its a high chair for the kids folded up for storage. We dont use it any more.;)

I like the pink emblem and florescent green cascades! Kind of JDM!

So what is going over the emblem area? I woudl think it would look a little awkward if there was just a solid piece of color right there? I am not sure I get what you're doing or something.

Either nothing ( shaved badge ) or like I said I wanna hand paint or have someone hand paint just the Lincoln star in black.

I had thought about that before. I custom painted my emblems because it was easier, and easily reversible if I didn't like it. Check it out.

Gratuitous pic whore post coming up :D

Forgot to add, I'm excited to see what it looks like when it's done. Maybe it will be too plain. Maybe it won't. Gotta see it when it's done!

I just did this same thing to mine, I haven't put my new emblem on it yet. (I'm using the big a$$ emblem from the 07 MKZ trunk) I just finished painting it saturday. I'll post a pic tonight, I am starting to like it plain though so I may not even use an emblem.

I got a few pics coming later.

I havent been able to do much.

pektel, looks like you forgot to black out your license plate in your third picture. im going to steal your identity now. or is that a fake number?

it's a fake number :shifty:

nah, I didn't catch it until I uploaded it to photobucket.

After getting rid of some of the chrome someone made a good point that the layer of chrome would be thinner than the layers of paint so it would take aay any fine points unless I wet sand the paint just right which would be very hard so I think Im holding off on taking any more chrome off.

Also after getting some chrome off I found the grill had some low spots in it the copper and the chrome had filled in.

Im going to sand it some more but I am going to even everything out with some of the 3M body filler first. That will at least take to the chrome for me to lay down some primer without issues.

In the last pic you can see the pink filler, the chrome, and the color of the plastic teh grille is made of. Its a off color if its even plain plastic. It really feels like something else. Almost like a fiberglass dowel rod.

You're right. I changed my mind. Those are ugly toes. The ones over on the left side of the pic look better.

What are you getting at?

Hit on me and I'll kick your ass.
