back again. i had gave up on my cruise after paying the dealership (they are no longer in business) 150 to tell me the cruise module was bad. after replacing it with 3 different ones and having the same issues i gave up. the dealership told me the clockspring was not the issue. fast forward approx. a year and my airbag light came on. after checking out the wiring under the seat and the radio decided to adjust the volume to whatever level it decided. needless to say i purchased a new clockspring. i just replaced it a couple hours ago. airbag light is gone and the radio works great. during the test drive i tried the cruise. all the buttons seem to work properly except that i still have no cruise. i even tried replacing the cruise module with one of the spares i had purchased. it still does not work.

now for the questions. what next? the clockspring and cruise control module have been ruled out. i assume the brake switch is ok since it turns the cruise light out when depressed. the only other thing i can think of is the speed sensor?

ps. i am getting really fast at swapping out the control module!

You mean like the vehicle speed sensor? You'd have no speedometer and shifting problems if that were failed. Have you checked the module that actually moves the throttle blade? I don't know if it's electric or vacuum operated, but if everything appears to be working (you get the cruise active light when on, light goes out when you brake) then it might be as simple as the cruise module is failed or the cruise throttle cable broke. The cruise throttle cable can break inside the sheath and you'd never know unless you pulled the connector off the throttle blade and pulled. Or, if it has an electric throttle blade (I really need to learn more about the LS specifically) then there may be an open wire somewhere between the cruise module and the computer that controls the throttle blade. Hope some of this helps. Oh, and there's nothing weird on the car like the cruise module must be calibrated to the car, is there? I have heard of such things on cars in the past.

Gen 1 is mechanical. Currently dealing with a slight issue myself. The plastic connector which attaches to the throttle body broke. Thanks to Earleebird for finding one for me(should be here Tuesday). If the issue turns out to be the servo, and the op has a gen 1, there is a complete cable and servo on eBay for $34 shipped. If you go new, the entire unit shows around $80 or so at the dealer.

i had a problem with my 1st gen V6, it was also the link to the throttle body, everything in the car looked like it was working (light in the cluster properly responds to button presses)

ended up finding one quick in a junk yard.

I found out the hard way when it broke. It hung the throttle open while on the interstate and in rain. Was not fun at all figuring out traffic while accelerating without being able to stop it. Thankfully, after a few close calls I found the emergency lane and quickly determined what occured.

I had a similar problem 6 months ago (2000 V6, MT). The cruise stopped working, everything functioned as it should (light coming and going with the clutch and brake, and when ever he speed dropped below 30 mph) just no speed control. After a month and just as I was going to buy a module on e-bay, it started working again. Has worked fine since then.

everything else on the car is working great. i have replaced the cruise module (in the drivers side front wheel-well) 3 times. the cable is smooth and the spring returns it just fine. the connection on the engine looks fine. when you pull the cable all the linkage moves as it should.

back when i started this ordeal ebay prices were out of this world, even on used modules. i did purchase a couple different modules from car-part.com. i have 3 different modules at this time and all three have the same results. i kinda feel like it might be in the wiring between the clockspring and the module. the bad is i have no idea how to check it. the dealer did a "pin point test" (supposedly) the first time and told me it was the module. that trip cost me a couple hours and $150. i truly am not upset that dealer went out of business.

That's gonna suck. It requires that you have the wiring harness diagram, and trace out each individual wire to find where to test at.

Hey, when you checked the cable, did you just twist the throttle plate or did you disconnect the cable from the throttle plate and pull on it? If you didn't disconnect and pull, this is what you need to do to check the cable.

i pulled it from the wheel-well. i will try disconnecting it from the module and linkage and feel it that way.

Just pop it off at the throttle plate linkage. Disconnect there only, then pull. It shouldn't come out very far. If you pull and it keeps on coming, you found the problem.
