Crash Test

I dont think that the red car was a sunroof car. If it was it would survived the crash better.

Seriously though yes I have seen that video, but these cars have excellent crash ratings. It doesnt seem to hold up well, but its the car sacrificing itself to slow deceleration.

Check this out if you havent seen it before.

@ scjmc

when on youTube, there is a "share" link directly below the vids,
click it and it pops under a console which shows the embedded link.

you should choose, "long link" or "long url"

highlight that link and copy it into memory.

then when here on the forum, when posting, there will be a little
world icon with a sideways linkage thingy on it, it's for applying
a url link to something. click it and a little console pops up,
then simply paste you url link into that and finish with the post.

you can review your reply/post to see if it embeds the vid correctly
before you finalize your post.

I have noticed, that it doesn't like those youtu.be/ type links,
seems to need the youtube.com/ link instead.

try it out, hope it helps ya ...

That overlap hit at 40 really tore up the core, 'A' pillar bent, rear door floor buckled bad. My 88 mustang took less damage to the core when I 'T' boned a BMW doing 67mph back in '96

The full frontal hit didn't look too bad in comparison

So what I got out of it is if you are going to hit at those speeds, swerve into the other car, not away from it...

The side of a BMW is not an immovable object. That wall they drive into only has a small amount of "crumple" zone and then its a hard stop. The side of a vehicle is actually quite weak. You likely also dispersed the force across the entire front end where this was concentrated on one side. I'd take the LS over the mustang any day, especially with my daughter on board.

Obviously, if you can direct the force to the side of the car without occupants that's better, but you usually don't have much time to calculate the best option. The LS handles well enough that you may avoid a major head-on impact if you swerve, but rear quarter contact may hurt occupants sitting there and send you out of control into other traffic. I always try to have a general idea of how I would react based on traffic volume and other surrounding conditions so that its almost instinct rather than panic reaction WHEN someone does something stupid in front of you.

Hoo boy did you see the Astro van that comes up after the first LS video? I would not want to be in a wreck in one of those things. It looked like the seat might even have ripped out of the floor because the seat and all flew forward into the airbag. I don't even want to think about what the crash test dummy's feet looked like.
