To anyone out there.
Does anyone know if the cooled seats are part of the overall A/C system?
My A/C blows very hot, but the seats still get very cold...??? Its getting looked at tomorrow, but I just want to know.
Thanks in advance!

The heated/cooled seats in the 03-06 cars works independently from the AC system, EXCEPT when the seats are in Automatic mode. When in Automatic, the seat temp is adjusted based on where you have the AC system temp in the cabin set, so the seat temp adjusts as the cabin temp goes up and down.

This is all explained in the owner's manual, btw.

Ok, so if I understand the owners manual...I did finally read it...if I put the seats into auto, and they cool down, while it blows hot out of the vents, then it seams to me that that would mean that either the DCCV is malfunctioning, and/or there are some doors that are not functioning, under the dash.
Hmmm...still confused...

Anyone else have any thoughts?

The seats use a different cooling mechanism, they don't get cool air from the compressor like the normal a/c

my 03 had the same problem, i bought it in the winter so i didnt notice that it didnt have ac. the car ac is a different system (the seats dont get refridgerent from the ac system they just blow air through the seat) all i had to do was replace all of the refridgerent in the system and now it blows nice and frosty air

Part right, there is a A/C duct under the seats and the cooled air is picked up and blown through the seats.

"Part right, there is a A/C duct under the seats"
Not true at all. In each seat there is a thermo-electric module. The module heats or cools the air that a blower under each seat blows through the cushions. The module is just like the modules in those little 12V ice-boxes. The seats are electrically powered and don't use anything from the car's A/C. The only relation is the main climate control module. These seats are quite a piece of technology, and it is annoying that so few appreciate it.

I had to look at my repair CD, your right the front seats use TED(thermo-eclectic device) and ambivalent cabin air. Your right about the "quite a piece of technology" with ceramics that give off heat or absorbs the heat and how the the fan speed comes on and off. The duct I was thinking is the duct to the seat back. The rear seats is a heating element only.

I thought heated and especially cooled seats were girlie, now I can't imagine living without, especially the cooled. Mine is set to auto all the time.

Thanks guys, This actually gives me some hope that maybe I just need a re-charge on the ac system.
Funny though, I bought my F150 new, in '96, and it has 214K on it, and it has NEVER had ANY A/C service of any kind, and will freeze you out of the cab.
Anyway, it will be looked at today, in about an hour.
Thanks Again!

Well, I was right the first time. DCCV.
$790.0 at the stealership...it was $107.00, just to get it diagnosed. $107.00, to tell me what I already knew...oh well, now one more hurdle is past, in maybe getting Ford to pony up, seeing as how I am so close to the warranty period.
I hope they do, because I have been FORD thru and thru.
I have a '96 F150, an '02 Escape, both purchased new. I have also in the past purchased new, a '93 Aerostar, and a new '88 Merc. Tracer. My dad has always owned Fords, and my father-in-law is a 30year Ford employee(retired).
If they dont help just a bit, I will jump ship!

Anyway, thanks for the responses, I have learned allot about this car, thru this!

Well, they...Ford...decided to NOT cover my problem. After all of that, and $107 dollars to tell me what I already knew.

They are truly going to continue to lose business with customer service like that...mine anyway.

It does seem like they should admit that there is a design or manufacturing flaw with the DCCVs, and extend coverage on them. I can't complain too much, they did extend coverage for mine (in the 04) when it failed.
