I hear it's normal for coolant to decrease in cold winters ....my coolant has dropped every winter when first below zero weather hits us in Minnesota is this normal ....doesn't change in the other three seasons...any thoughts?

No need to worry about that now. If it's just a one-time decrease, just add some coolant and see if it decrease again. If so, perform a leak detection.

Mine dropped slightly with the onset of cold weather... and if I don't develop any actual leaks,,, it should raise slightly when temps warm back up. Remember science class??? Any liquid when heated will expand. The opposite is also true.
