Over in the 'bias' thread there has been some discussion on whether the media is biased due to the fact that journalists have taken it upon themselves to slant the news to their personal leanings (or the leanings of the ownership of the media outlet), or the fact that various outside factors such as the need to increase ratings and profits, please advertisers and court Wall Street, and others is what is causing the media to skew one way or another.

I personally believe it is the latter - because there is an obvious 'left' majority in America, the media has turned into a mirror of that demographic...

Are the majority of Americans left and will this trend continue and is conservatism an endangered species?

Yes, yes, and yes.

To start - quoting Mr Shag's source, Michael Barone, "The pollsters I know, both Republican and Democratic, are continually questioning their own procedures and are trying to adjust them to reflect changes in the workings of society. Polls, they all concede, are imperfect instruments, to be read with some caution."

So, if polls are biased - let's throw them out and deal just with numbers, because that is all we have left.

You can't then use anything other than registered voters - even though as the honarable Shag states there is some fictional 'operation chaos', they are the only concrete numbers we have to work with, since you may say most of the polls are biased towards the left, and I say the remaining polls are biased toward the right.

Registered voter numbers in the United States - 42 Million Democrats, 31 Million Republicans in the states that register by party affiliation.

More liberals to start out.

Since there are more liberals there will be more exposure to liberal thoughts and ideals. Constant exposure has a tendency to alter one's perception of reality - the left will acquire more members due to this form of subtle brain washing.

Because of their number advantage, it also means more liberals in the gene pool. It is more likely that liberals will find a mate within their own group, and in fact, some conservatives may find themselves looking at liberals as possible mates, because as Shag so succinctly stated that youth has a tendency to be liberal, while conservatives are often older.
Considering the fact that conservatives tend to be older (and more likely to read or otherwise "consume" the news) and liberals tend to be younger (and less likely to seek out the news),…
Conservative women will be drawn to the younger, more viral liberal mate than the older, less potent conservative options. And often the other side of the coin can be played here as well. Conservative men are usually the ones with the means to look for a 'trophy wife'. With the few younger, conservative women looking more at the liberal mating stock, conservative men will also find that the selection of women who are blond, young, surgically enhanced and willing to overlook old age for a Rodeo Drive lifestyle and large inheritances is greater within the liberal group,

Within these 'mixed matings' there will be a higher probability that their offspring will become liberal, with the continued bombardment of leftist ideals from the outside world and one parental unit also espousing the identical doctrine.

Of course, children of two liberal parents will remain tied to the liberal fold, while, within the dwindling conservative pairings, the natural attrition of liberal media exposure will be continuing, further reducing their numbers, and the chances for additional conservative/conservative households.

Because of their older demographic, the conservatives will also be dying off at a faster pace, leaving fewer and fewer of them to fight the conservative fight, and they will also be going to bed earlier, leaving the 8 pm to midnight time frame vulnerable to liberal attacks.

As you can see, within a very short time the conservative will be an endangered species. Sadly, eventually the only place where you might get to see a conservative would be in special preserves. Here they could be viewed (from the safety of specially designed Tour Priuses) in their natural habitats, Ann Taylor stores, piano bars, wood lined boardrooms, cigar bars where cigars are actually smoked (what a waste of a good cigar...).

I fear that the conservatives' days are truly numbered, and unless something radical is done, breeding programs, protected habitat, affirmative action, we will be hearing the last Rush Limbaugh show in the very near future. The end of an era.

Obviously a fund needs to be set up, perhaps with matching federal grants.

And even more apparently I am getting bored about writing about nuts and bolts at work, and occasionally need to flex my writing chops... This debate has gotten extremely serious over in the bias thread - I felt that perhaps we could all laugh at ourselves a little...

Honestly don't have time to fisk that WOT, but I'll just insert my two cents:

Since when does Democrat = Liberal, and Republican = Conservative? Aside from the nuanced argument, your entire premise is flawed.

Not to mention the article isn't accounting for dead people who are still registered Democrats.

Also, David Limbaugh wrote an article a couple of years ago that demonstrated the exact opposite based on the fact that liberals tend to abort their young more often than conservatives. Want the link?

Really - David, gum drop, you aren't questioning the fact that I stated that conservatives go to bed earlier - leaving the left an unfair advantage after 8:00 PM?

In the light of my post above I think you would be far better off finding quotes from Dave Berry and not David Limbaugh. Although - if David Limbaugh actually wrote something that I would be able to chuckle at, please do, send me that link about liberals aborting themselves out of existence.

So, what part of satirical commentary do you have trouble with- or is it because I haven't given visual reference of my tongue place firmly within my check.

If you wish I can also take the opposite side, on how conservatives will be the ones left standing once natural selection has taken place, and evolution has been allowed to take its course. Wait - that isn't creationism, I'll have to come up with something better I guess...

But, certainly someone out there can give me the rebuttal I deserve...:p

Nice job of (deliberately?) misunderstanding my post. Do I actually need to use the words "apples and oranges" or "non sequitur" for you to get my point? Please tell me you're not generating these self-congratulatory walls of text just because you, as an artist, admire your work more than anyone else does.

Just because someone is a democrat that does not automatically make them liberal. The same goes for the opposite side. Republicans are not just automatically conservative.

Ah David, mellitus femur,

derideo incumbo

Don’t throw latin, unless you live in a house with Doric Columns

Perhaps you missed the last line – “laugh at ourselves”.

To make satire work, it needs a tiny bit of truth, quoting numbers makes it look legit – until, you actually get to the part of the liberal brain washing (well, maybe you see that as legit as well, but certainly in the next paragraph you had to start seeing parody). Bait – than hook – satire uses it all the time.

You need to smile, stand back from all the latin tossing and try to see humor in this stuff. I posted this in its very own thread, removing it from the Olympian barbs on the other thread in hopes that maybe… oh well.

Or, do you take everything this seriously – I sincerely hope not. This could mean that you see sex as only means of procreation, and not an enjoyable contact sport. :(

Hmm. Snarky and flirty at the same time.

Put your money where your mouth is.

Or maybe you don't like guys...

I admit that halfway through reading the original post I was thinking "you've GOT to be kidding me." Then it slowly dawned on me the further I went that this was an attempt to lighten the mood. Comic relief, it's a good thing.

David, snicker doodle,

I never put money in my mouth - blick - There are many, many other things I would rather have my lips around than an old ben franklin.

I adore men. Women seem to be missing that certain... Je ne sais quoi

Although, to be honest, I certainly have enjoyably traveled both roads...

He's just trying to prove that he's smarter than you are. :p

I skimmed over this at lunch and got about halfway through before I posted my reply. Now, (feeling quite sheepish) I'm laughing at myself for not heeding my own often told advice, to read the whole damn post before replying.

Don't sweat it. I thought it appropriate, especially since our resident liberalbabe didn't get it the first time. ;)

David, bewitching buns, who didn't get it the first time?
