This has been going on ever since the weather has dipped under the 30's.

When I start the car the stereo button light do not light up.....but function. The stereo display works just fine. The steering wheel functions are one off as if the clockspring is failing...but the cruise side works fine.

Now.....if I let the car sit and warm up for as little as a minute...shut it off and start it right away......the stereo buttons light back up, the steering control works correctly and it will be fine until it sits and gets cold again.

Warm days this doesn't happen.

It's an 01 with factory HU....6 disk Alpine.

Anyone else have this issue or a reason behind it?

Do you mean (a) the radio buttons on the steering wheel don't light up at first, or (b) the buttons on the radio itself don't light up at first?

The buttons on the radio.....the steering wheel buttons light up as normal...just do not function until I turn the car off and on again. Only when it's cold.

I thought my clockspring was going out until it happened in the mornings and noticed the radio button lights are not working.

Also I forgot to mention when it does this, I turn the car off...the stereo shuts off right away instead of staying on until I open the door.

Again only when it's cold. After I turn the car off and back on the stereo/steering wheel/radio off delay works perfectly.

Bad radio.
Radio connector not fully seated. (would hurt to unplug the radio connectors and then plug them back in)
Bad wiring.
...

I have reseated all the connections.

I just find it so weird it's only when it's under 30 degrees.

Oh well.....live with it.

Thanks much.

Metal contracts as it gets colder. If it's not a poor connection at a connector pin, it's probably a bad solder joint on one of the PCBs inside the radio. One of the tricks to finding bad solder joints is to spray cold spray on small areas of the board until the problem shows up.

So I got a bit bored today....here's some diagnostics from the stereo.

Self Test fail.....code A477

Configuration....No config 7D

Any ideas...I'm guessing I have a software issue?
