Cold weather guys, educate me

I love you Southerners ... LOL ... good for a winter's laugh...

what would happen if it really got cold or snowed down south ....

we had 12 inches of snow last year in less than 24 hours and this year we got a couple of inches of ice. some pretty nasty accidents cars just sldiing everywhere.

And yes this is in Texas. Tonights low for my area is 18 degrees with a windshield of 10. 6000 people were without power due to rolling blackouts from the cold.

The coldest it got today was 17...last time it was this cold here was 14 degrees in 1917.

I lived in the midwest for 5 years and it never got as bad as it is here now. we dont have snow plows and salt trucks to the same
capacity as up north so this is pretty serious.

LOL!

wow i spend too much time on here.

Right.. I thought you just made a mistake, but I've seen it a couple times.. I thought you were getting a reading from your windshield until you used it in that sentence..

No i just have lvc running through my mind all day.

Thanks Vic. I've done winters in a Mustang GT and my Lincoln and never got so much as sideways. I don't mind driving in it at all. But even when we had our record snowfall here it was never this cold. But listening to everybody else it sounds like I need to fire up the grill lol practically t-shirt weather here compared to what others are dealing with.

like i said, my LS drives fine. you need to shut off the ATS from time to time, but it's solid.

as far as the mustang, i had a 99 GT when i was in toronto, and i compare that to my LS: big difference. the mustang is light in the back, the LS is not.

i understand what you're saying about the cold, and i'm going to borrow from the americans here and say that the low threshold of snow is 29F.

your car will do fine in dallas, since you guys have not, consistently, gotten lower than that.

I miss my GT. I would still have that today if the engine hadn't decided to just implode one day. I never ran it hard, changed oil religously. But at 160,000 miles it just died on the highway one day. completely siezed up.

Haha, you guys should try living in Montana where I do. Its winter 6 months out of the year and for example the high tommorrow is -3 the low is -24 without windchill. You know how I take car of my LS during the winter? It gets cleaned, winterized and put in my garage alongside my Vmax and Thunderbird. I am jealous of people in the warmer climates who can just drive what the want to drive all or most of the year. Where I live if you dont have 4WD you arent going to get very far.

I agree with you ... people whining about winter ... I know you guys get it worse than us in WI ....

This thread is funny. I have traveled to Dallas on business and I was amazed when my co-workers went out at lunch time to fun their cars for a half hour when the temps were in the high 30's! They thought they needed to keep the cars warm or something. We just shook our heads.

On the other hand I have been in Dallas for an ice storm and it is the worst. Dallas has NO infrastructure or plows that can even think about dealing with the ice there. They don't put salt down, just sand so the ice doesn't melt, it just gets dirty and the city shuts down until it warms up.

Was watching the news in Dallas during an ice storm and this actually happened. They were doing a remote broadcast from the DOT and the reported was in front of a huge pile of sand that they were going to put down. There was a worker there that brought out a 40 pound back of sand and spread it over the sand! ONE BAG OF SALT!! That was over 20 years ago and I still laugh at it.

I think they use to use salt, but Dallas is shiny new car city and people complained about it. So they look good as they slide into each other. But hey, you only know what you live with. I'd have similar questions about extreme heat as well. Not about every car, but definitely about THIS car.

Yeah and this time we went way below 30....matter fact we stayed below freezing for 4 days straight.

Ive lived up there....its not the same when a city isnt prepared for it.

ive also felt 5 degrees up there and 20 degrees here felt colder than that.

so freezing cold weather plus tons of ice that wont go away plus no salt being laid down equals :q:q:q:qty weather.
