So my LS has been acting a little funny the last few weeks, and it seems to be getting worse. It idles very rough in the morning, and the RPMs jump around 800-1200, when it warms up all is fine.

Its the 02 V6 Manual-Tran, a friend of mine thinks it could be the O2 sensor, I found on the threads it could be the PVC valve or hose. Any one have a similar problem and know a solution?

Thanks in advance.

I don't have experience with your problem, but I'll throw my two cents in anyway. I really doubt that it is the 02 sensors. They are electrically heated, and as such start working very very quickly. I think that one of the coolant or engine temperature sensors may be more likely. If you have (or know someone with) a scan tool that can read the ford specific parameters instead of just the generic ones, I'd give that a try. Look at the sensors readings with the engine cold, and see if any of them don't make sense.

I know that problem

I have a 01V6, yes the rumble and cough. Its the PCV hose that has cracked and is leaking air. Once it gets bad you will get a code of banks running lean.
Air in the system behind the MAF, be sure and check to make sure everything is tight after the MAF and all hoses plugged in and dip stick all the way in. Any air getting into the system will cause the rumble. But most likely the hose.

Its located under the intake manifold. If you are really handy you can do it yourself, if not the dealer wants $400, mostly labor costs. Its a job.

Good luck!

Hmm, well my engine light came on from this problem and has not gone off since. I was planning on doing my plugs and coils soon, so while I am under the hood and have the intake off I should go ahead and do the PCV as well. Damn, I have look at it and its a little tight around the intake, not looking forward to this at all. Any one every done this job and have any pointers?

Since I plan on doing it over the weekend I need to make sure I have all my parts before I start, figure this should take me at least a day to finish. Here is my list of items I am getting and fixing

- upper intake gaskets
- inner/outer valve cover gaskets
- spark plugs
- coils
- PVC Valve & Hose
- Serp Belt (seems a bitch to get to)

Just wondering if there are any parts I might have to remove or replace while I am in there, since I would only like to do this one time.

Thanks again for all your advice.

Just a follow up to the original problem. I replaced the coils and plugs, and def had an oil leak because two of the coils were pretty wet. I dried up all the oil and replaced my coils, plugs, and gaskets. Put her all back together and she started right up with no more shaking. I did not how ever get to replace the PCV valve, since I couldn't find the dang thing, but know know how to get to it. I also replaced my serp belt, only because I broke a part off of one of the coolant hose (little nipple that feeds coolant into the intake) and just so happened it exposed enough room to get my hands in there... it had the thermostat attached into it (and a hearty price tag also).

After everything was said and done cost me about $600 dollars in parts, got to love the LS.

Thanks again you guys, couldn't have done this without your advice.

Thank you for the follow up, so often we never hear how it worked out so as to help others.

my 01 LS6 does the same thing sometimes...the battery light will come up also. it stops after a lil bit but if i give it too much gas i like stALL and gotts shut my car off an restart. its reallly annoying ... is my issue the same as above?

My battery light never came on, but my check engine light did. I had it checked at a shop and told me 2 of the plugs were fouled out. It would idle very rough, and sound like a lawn mower, it was pretty bad on really cold days. One time while driving it seemed to have gotten worse, I pulled over and turned it off. When I started it up again she was fine.

So maybe the same as yours TwansLS. I would get it tested and see if you have fouled plugs, don't know how to test for a PCV leak, but could be a combo of both.

Cold start trouble :(

Hey guys, sorry to dig up an old thread but I thought my question would best serve those who searched like I did and found this thread.

I have a similar issue to the one in this thread but I have inspected my hose and it doesn't seem to be cracked at all. However, I did notice that the lower intake gaskets were in terrible shape. Would this cause the same issue? or does it have to be my hose?

Thanks,
Aaron

ANY unmetered air will cause problems. I assume this is for the V6 so..... I would replace the gaskets and, as you're already there, the PVC tube also.

Yes, it's a V6. I apologize for not including it before, but my car is a 2002 V6. I was told it was an LSE but as I dig into it I think it may be one someone made from parts of another LSE.

Do I replace just the rubber elbow off of the PVC valve or the entire thing? The tube on my car has a metal bracket and metal elbow as the center of it.
