Coil Starting To Cause Misfire...

...AGAIN!!

I'm not gonna pay dealer any more $$ to fix this. I've decided it's time to get like I used to be when I was a teenager, and worked on my Mustang II, and with the info from this great forum, fix this myself.

So my first question is:

How do I determine which coil(s) is(are) causing the misfire? I haven't been able to find an old thread with that info.

Also--could you give me links to any/all threads that discuss this problem? I know this is a very common issue with the LS.

Bring it to a parts store.. Tell them you have a check engine light on (even if you dont).. MAKE them check it because even without the light on, if it has ever been on it will read the codes.

In any case, the codes will tell u exactly which coils and plugs need changing
 
If your gonna do it yourself... less than $250 to replace all the coils and plugs. Just knock em all out and you won't have to worry about it for a while
 
i just got my coils from ebay look sweetly new lol paid 170 alanidis ebay seller i think
 
Pull the injector wires one at a time, When you pull one that don't change the rpm, it's bad.

That will find the any that have completely failed. However, usually the LS coils don't fail completely, they get weak and become hit or miss. That's harder to find. The dealers usually scope the coils to see which ones are bad. Short of that, if you have a Ford specific scan tool, you can check and see which cylinders have misfire counts greater than zero.
It may be better to just replace them all.
2003 to 2005 are covered up to 100K miles for coil problems at no cost to you.
 
does the warranty for coils cover the 2005 V6? asking since my dad has an ls too and hes been paying for an extended warranty just for the coils basically.

ok thanks for that and one more question. im changing my coils,vcg and plugs but im stuck on a clip and dont want to break it. heres the picture its circled in red. how do i take it off?

I'm pretty sure there are two spots on the connector that you can see clip on, squeeze opposite of them and pull up. There is an o-ring on the the inside of the connector, make sure that doesn't fall off or get lost.
