Coil (COP) sequence?

I've been through what most any LS owner has been through - coil replacements. My 2004, at 68,000 miles is fortunately still within the extended program/warranty. So, at least it hasn't cost me anything, other than my time spent at the dealership.

So, my question...what is the sequence of the coils/plugs when I'm standing in the front looking toward the rear of the engine compartment?

The reason I ask is, I'm down to only two coils (#3 & #6) that have not been replaced. I'm trying to decide if I should get the parts from Maxx and replace them myself. Or, wait until they go bad and have it done free at the dealership.

It's not too bad when these "go south" around town. But, in the back of my mind I imagine being on a long trip, traveling the interstate at night near "Timbuktu" and having one or both of these last two go bad. Even worse, having the car go into Failsafe mode.

When the first pair of coils went bad on me it was as I was trying to merge onto the interstate during rush hour. Soon as I hit the throttle to gain speed to match everyone else...Failsafe! I quickly went to neutral, shut the car off and restarted, shifted back to Drive and thought I was going to be okay. Nope...as soon as I hit the throttle again to regain speed, it happened a second time. Not fun - trust me!!! :(

Anyway, the last two coils might last for a long time, but then again... :cool:

And if you ever wondered, the firing order for the V6 is 1-4-2-5-3-6
 
Thanks for the quick replies/info guys! Sorry I didn't mention up front that it was a V8. But I could have figured it out from the V6 information you gave. 1LoudLS, I appreciate you fixin' it for me anyways. :)

I'll probably ponder this for a little while, but I might just decide to go ahead a replace the two coils for peace of mind.

I hadn't posted here in awhile, but am glad to see that everyone is still quick to offer assistance. Also, I know better to do a Search first. I guess I didn't know the "magic words" to find what I needed. ;)

oh my. That was a stupid mistake. :D

Well, then to modify my previous post further:

Incase you've ever wondered, the firing order for the v8 is 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8

Interesting! Each time I've had the coils replaced, it's been in pairs. 1 & 5, 2 & 4 and 7 & 8. So, that leaves 3 & 6 left that have not been replaced - yet.

Is this just coincidence that this matches up with the firing order?
