My check engine light came on tonight and I pulled the codes and got just a 173: Memory Code - HO2 System Rich (Bank 1-Passenger side I believe.)

I was hoping someone might have run into this already on their Gen 1 and be able to point me in the right direction as I won't be able to look at it till this weekend at the earliest it looks like, so any prior ideas would be good! Gas mileage has gone to $#!t as well :(

I'll check the fuel pressure regulator/fp to see if it's leaking, and will listen to the injectors to hopefully pinpoint it more. I've rarely seen 02 codes being the fault of the actual O2's, but usually upstream of them...

Sound like a good game plan so far?
If anyone has ideas as I mentioned, please let me know :)
Thanks!

hmm, not sure how to test them. The maf, feul pw, and st trim numbers seem fine so far. I just borrowed a better scanner to see if it tells me any more, but still not sure on the injectors... :(

I ran a cartridge of Motorcraft Pressurized Injector cleaner through the car with a kit I borrowed from a friend (disable pump, disconnect main and return fuel lines and run it off this can only till it stalls.) It's idling a tad higher and tad smoother so lets see if it was an injector or not...
I'm going to run it for a bit and see if the gas mileage improves and see if the code comes back. I have two new O2's sitting here that will go in next if it doesn't clear up I guess...

I wasn't able to find anything that looked abnormal on a different scan tool either, but had some trouble with it so may look for a better one...

Rich is too much fuel, prob have an injector sticking open. You can get a rebuild kit fairly cheap online and it's pretty simple..Bill rebuilt mine when we did my motor..if he can figure it out, you should have no problems

Lean usually indicates its something other then an O2 sensor. Rich is more often then not the O2 sensors fault. They slow down and then the injector pulse is too wide. If you have the sensors then replace them. O2s are a wear item and should be replaced every 50-60k anyway.

Sure everyone dont do it and says they still work fine but unless you data log then its BS. Data log an old "working" O2 against a new one and you will see just how much faster the new one controlls the motor.

Yes, this is what I've been leaning towards as well (or a fuel pressure regulator that acts up under load/speed.) I still have the better scanner from my friend so do want to see how much quicker the new 02's are, as mine do seem slow to me.
I'm still giving it a few days to see if this injectors cleaner works though as I probably can't get to it till the weekend anyways...
Thanks for the ideas, keep 'em coming if you have more :)
