Will a Gen II speedo cluster fit in a Gen I?

If so, can a Gen II V6 be put into into my Gen I V8?

Are there any differences in v6 and v8 speedo clusters?

1st gen = odb2
2nd gen = can

the modules in the cars "speak a different language"

You can swap face plates between any years and styles.
This is the only way you can do what you want.

If you're careful you can pry off the cluster needles without damaging them.
Use a small flat screwdriver wrapped in a small piece of cloth to prevent scratches.
The faceplate has some glue in the rings at the centers so you have to use a boxcutter blade to cut them otherwise that's it once you've taken the lens off.
5 minute epoxy works well to reglue the centers.
After replacing the needles and putting the cluster back it will do a sweep to reset itself.
The drivers for the needles look like little electric motors.

This way you avoid all the headaches of mating the cluster to your car as well as being able to use any style of face plate.

What about an 02 T-Bird cluster?

You have to have the dealer "marry" the cluster to the car.
The 03+ cars will turn over but won't even fire up unless this is done.

The dealer would have to download your current odometer info, remove the cluster, install your new cluster, "marry" it to your car and they won't guarantee your used one will work.

We're talking serious dollars here at stealership rates.

It's much easier and cheaper to find a cluster with the face you want and swap out faceplates.

TBird ones fit the LS, all the faceplates interchange.

I've emailed Ken about the faceplate they sell at Lskoncepts.com but no response...:shifty: It shows a status of back ordered. I like that one because you can change the color of the LED at the flip of a switch!

That's an "inlay" that goes on top of the face plate.
It can be slid on without removing the needles.
Look on eBay.
There's probably some out there.
