Hey Guys!

I've done alot of searching on here and am still unsure. My airbag light has been on for a few months now and it's the 3-2 flash. I've checked the switch under the seat and everything looks good. I'm all set to order the clockspring now, but don't want to waste $100+ if it's not the issue. My question is can it still be the clockspring if my horn, radio, and cruise control still work fine? I've been waiting for months for one of them to start acting funny so that I would know for sure but it never happened. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Mike

Yes, it IS still a possiblilty its your clockspring. Cant say for 100% since there isnt any other related issues, but typically when the clockspring goes back it starts with one little thing and slowly progress's to two issues, then three and and becomes a pain in the ass. To make you feel a little better, I have a good working clockspring in my posession Ill ship to you for CONSIDERABLE less than your going to find anywhere else :D If your interested PM me, if not then I'd still say its worth replacing.. if it turns out thats not the problem, then all you did was invested into a part that was due to go bad sooner or later anyways.

yeah my airbag light has been on for year and a half. The radio controls started acting funny after 12 months and the last two weeks my horn stopped working. I would say yes it is the clockspring.

So you've been driving without an airbag for a year and a half?

yeah, I knew that was coming. Well my inspection is up and I have to get the horn working to pass, so I will have to get it fixed. I have been driving for 15 years and 10-12 of those years was without an airbag so another year won't hurt. I always wear my seatbelt.

This is my first post on this forums so please don't rag me.

What is a clock spring? My crusie control works but nothing else on the steerign wheel works? hummm?

clock spring ties the electronics from the steering wheel to the dash board. Its need because of the tilt and telescoping wheel

Do you guys have a pic? Sorry to steal the thread but I figured since it's on topic might as well. Just got my car 4 days ago

Its need because of the tilt and telescoping wheel

Actually, it's needed because the steering wheel rotates. Nearly all cars have clocksprings, whether or not they have tilt or telescoping steering wheels. The clockspring only takes care of the rotating part on the steering wheel. the tilt and telescoping part is taken care of by the wiring behind the clockspring. (It is left a little long so that it can pull in and out.)

touche!

I replaced my clockspring this weekend and I'm thrilled to say that the air bag light is gone. Thanks for everyone's help and especially for the write up for replacing it. If anyone is in need of a clockspring, I purchased mine from forddirectonline.com for $97 shipped. Cheapest one I could find online that was new.
