I have some codes I need to clear, and want to verify if I pull the neg battery cable I will not have to go to the dealer for ivd initialization. I did search but did not find the answer I was looking for. Any insight would be great.

P.S. 2000 ls V8

No, you will be fine if you disconnect and reconnect the battery. The modules will retain everything they need to, and relearn the rest of it.

BTW, you do not "need" to clear any codes. If you have fixed the problems, they will go away after a few drive cycles. If you have not fixed the problem and you clear them anyway, they will come back after a few drive cycles. Either way, you won't know for a while if you have really fixed anything or not.

My experience with the fords I have been driving for the last 15 years has always been that it takes longer for the light to go out, than it does to come back on.

i agree with that, but i wouldnt undo the battery to do it. take it to advance auto or auto zone and borrow their tool to do it yourself for free. some of them will say they cant legally turn it off yada yada yada. just ask the guy if you can see the tool. its pretty easy to figure out.

unplugging the battery is going to clear your KAM, and there are two specific procedures you need to follow after unplugging the battery which mr joegr failed to tell you about. the first is in the owners manual, and it is related to installing a new battery. the second is a drive cycle procedure to clear the dtc which will appear until all of your sensors are reset. additionally, your shift strategies will be wiped out and have to be relearned... search for the drive cycle procedure on here for further info.

i think the headache of taking it to the parts store is worth it in your case. better yet search ebay/amazon for 'elm327', buy an android cellphone or tablet, and get the free app called 'torque' and clear the codes yourself from the comfort of your own garage

Advance Auto won't clear the codes, but they will let you push the button to clear the codes. Auto zone will clear the codes. 3 driving cycles of 15 min each will clear the codes. Removing the battery cables for 10 minutes then re-installing them will clear the codes. I have done all the above on my Volvo, F-150 & LS before I bought my code reader.
