Do it.

Did it to my marquis and the throttle responce was def improved. It was pretty dirty, 1ftx1ft rag covered in black crud. Also did it on my mk8 but its still in the garage for acouple more weeks. Same amount of crud. marquis has 110k and the lincioln 125k.

Spray on the tb cleaner in and around, behind the butterflies, let it soak in, take a rag and clean it off as well as you can. Be sure to get the edges of the butterflies as thats the most important part.

Just thought i'd share.

you are not supposed to clean the throttle body, it says it right on the butterfly.

whats a throttle body lmfao!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why are you not supposed to clean it? It gets dirty, right? Is it harmfull to clean it?

the butterfly's are coated in some special finish and it says right on the butterfly do not clean, dont ask me why, ask ford, im just telling you what it says right on the throttle body.

It said it on my marquis and my friends marquis but not on the lincoln. He is a auto tech and did it from what he said to be 1.5 years ago knowing of the warning. We checked it out when i was doing mine and it was pretty dam clean still.

I'll risk having to clean it every year if it means i get all that crap off. Really gross.

The thottle body is on top of the motor where the air intake tube ends.

the coating not only helps prevent buildup but it also helps seal the throttle plate when closed. i had a customer come in with revs hanging when he would come to a stop in his ranger. i asked him if he had cleaned his throttle body. he claimed he didnt. (when i pulled the intake tube the plate was SPOTLESS and shiny. this was a 104k mile truck) sorry buddy but you need a throttle body ($1300+ on his particular truck.)

cleaning them isnt that big of a deal using the ford PM2/PM3 decarb cleaners but i would be a little nervous using aftermarket cleaners. the BIG problem is when someone sprays the cleaner in there and wipes it out with a rag. this is how the coating really gets removed.
