hey guys newbie here.......i have a 2000 ls and i have had a problem with the warning chime going off without any lights or anything wrong on the info screen.what it does is when i first start the car it chimes 4-5 times in 5-6 intervals with short pauses between then it goes away.it just started doing it all of a sudden with no dash lights or problems shown on the info screen.its driving me nutz and was wondering if anyone has had or have heard of this problem and what i need to do to fix it.it also comes back when i have been driving for like 30 mins.

my 2000 did the same... it something about that year... the dealer can't even fix it.. they have no idea what it is!

so get use to it....

I don't know if this is related. Had the same problem last year on a Buick Park Ave. It went on for quite some time but when we finally had it checked out it ended up that it was misfiring and needing a complete tune-up. After changing the spark plugs, wires and coils it was fine.

I think that an SRS problem (as was suggested) is the most likely one.

oh yea forgot about that one... but he did say no warning lights

Exactly NO warning lights.
If the Airbag indicator bulb blows out the car will chime to let you know there is something wrong with the restraint system. The SRS relies on that bulb to warn you of a problem with the system. If it blows out you could drive for years and never know the system isn't working correctly until the day you need it and its not there.
Any difficulty with the system is indicated by one or more of the
following:
² The readiness light will either
flash or stay lit
² The readiness light will not
illuminate immediately after
ignition is turned to the RUN position
² A series of five beeps will be heard. The tone pattern will repeat
periodically until the problem and/or light are repaired.

Just one possibility.

Its also possible that there is an error with the Instrument cluster or PCM.

all he needs to do then is turn the key to the on position and see if it lights (Bulb CHECK) dont start the car just turn the key to the on position and watch for the Air bag light! I believe its a picture of a balloon in a little guys face that is sitting down...

i know all my idiot lights worked and it chimed all the time

you know what.......i think that is what the problem is cause my light doesnt come on at all and when i bought the car there was a piece of black tape over the light.but i pulled the cluster and took the tape off and it didnt light up still.but i also took the bulb out and put it back in and thats when it started.i put the bulb back but it didnt make any difference after that.i will try a new bulb and see if that will fix it.cause it never made it when i got the car.

also if i disconnected the battery for a bit will a code on my stereo come on????

i dont have the code from what i know of

Thanks for the play-by-play.

unless you can find exactly where the chime is coming and cut the speaker wire, deal with it...i have for almost 2 years now

on my 2000 i didnt find a speaker but a little spiral wire cylinder.. i thought about cutting it but figured it was a bad idea..

your saying you find a speaker and cut the wire????

heck yea...try your best and find that specific wire and slice it...and then you let me know where it is so i can do the same...

You might want to rethink that. Do you ever expect to sale or trade this car? I think you could be held liable for intentionally disabling a safety warning device. At least if you do, be sure to get whoever you sale/trade the car to to sign a receipt saying that they know the SRS isn't working.

The chimes are a warning that the SRS bulb isn't working. It's a required backup to the bulb.

most door chimes are not like a standard speaker, most are like a small black cylinder with a thin piece of plastic as the cone, kinda like a "tweeter"

Tape over the light?

Well that tells you something. I would go back to the dealer and flip sh!t!

That is a serious safety hazard in some people eyes. What if something were to happen and the air bags didn't deploy or even worst were delayed and you got blasted at the wrong time like say while your head was turned and you were reaching to unbuckle the belt or something,... ANYTHING!!! and that dealership knew something like that could have happened the whole time?

Or... What if the airbags pop while you are driving down the road with no impact? There probably will be an impact soon after that.

i bought the car like that and got it so damn cheap that i couldnt really complain but i will try the bulb then let you guys know

The clock spring could be bad or the side airbag wiring under the seat could probably be broken which would set off the light. And rather than fix it the right way, someone just taped over it. That's what I did cuz it pissed me off to see that damn bright yellow light shining me in the face every time I drove my car :p But that was only for a few weeks, and I didn't have any plans to sell or trade it at the time.

More than likely when/if you replace that bulb it will start blinking at you the first time you start the car.
