My Check Transmision came on and then I seen a E where it tells you what gear your in. Shut the car off and started it again and warning did not come back on.How do you check the fluid and add some? the manual says to take it in but that will cost $

I got check transmission once. Before I got new tires I was taking care of the old ones with a friend in the car, turned the advance trac off and did a powerbrake, sat still speedo was around 35-40 mph standing still, tires were melting smoke everywhere, let off brake slowly and turned wheel, slid around, did some donuts etc. stopped and started to drive away you could hear the tires sticking to the pavement, and I got check transmission. They did the tire work, that was 2 months ago, havent seen it since. Think it may have gotten a little hot
there's a process. check the tech section. really, not trying to be negative but checking the fluid is a pita. involes jacking all for corners of the vehicle and studying the "drip pattern" when you pull the inner drain plug.

Hey bro i got this problem 2days ago with my 2000 lincoln ls v8 the light said check transmission and the letter E upside down... i turn the engine off and restart it and it was fine the light went in to normal, but now i can only drive for a couple of feets and then i would stop and all i hear is the rpm and no accelerating going on.... But what did ur lincoln have or how u fix it???

The check tranny light is just an idiot light and in my opinion means "you already have problems, let's fix it before it gets worse".
The other guy is right about PITA to check the fluid level. You have to level the car, remove the "drain plug" and pump a little fluid into the tranny thru the plug and wait to see if any drips back out. Kind of like checking differential fluid level, except worse. The plug is not really a drain, it has a tube up the center that goes to the proper fill level, sow when you over fill it dribbles back out the tube.
As far as power braking, that is not a good thing to do to a tranny that isn't built for it. Most stock vehicles do not like power braking as a steady diet. It may look impressive, but you are overheating the fluid and if you are really unlucky, you will balloon the torque converter and then get to pay some bills.
