I noticed after using the electronic park brake in my 03(v8) a few times it wouldnt engage and Check Parking Brake light came on. After the initial incident, everytime I start my car it pops up and I have to hit the reset button to clear. however, the e-brake does engage now, but still get the "check park brake".

Thanks in advance for your knowledge!

On the 03+, there is a module that controls it (electronic) and maybe it could be malfunctioning..

You could try resetting it..
Make sure it's in park, turn ignition on. Apply the brakes while pulling on the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) switch at the same time. Then release the EPB switch.. To do so, push on it while releasing the brakes..

Are you getting any codes?

I may sound like a retard but correct me if im wrong....

The way you're telling me to do it, do i need to be synchronized?....I.E.....You want me to push the break as im pullin EPB lever, then release it as im letting go of the brakes.

By doing this in park it will reset them?

and will i get some type of notification when it resets so i know its been done correctly?

thanks fastlls

the reason i ask you this question is because what youve told me to do sounds no different than wat i do on a daily routine when using the park brake....ya kno what im saying?

There's a 99% chance it's the electronic parking brake module and it will need to be replaced.

I'm just going by what the service manual says.. lol.. It says to pull while depressing so I assume it's synchronized..

Thanks guys....i promised i did several search keywords prior to posting....

thanks for link bullschmidt

Check the parking brake cables where they attach to the rear calipers. There's a plastic end cap that sometimes breaks. You have a persistent problem and it would fit with that.

Most problems with the electronic parking brake in the 03 and 04 are intermittent. There is a TSB out advising that the electronic parking brake module should be replaced on 04's with a problem.

I have also seen a weak car battery cause electronic parking brake problems, but only intermittent ones.

A Ford specific scan tool can pull DTCs for exactly what the system is complaining about.

you reset the parking brake by disconnecting the batttery. Then it will ask you to put on the E-brake and it will calibrate itself.

When I swapped out calipers a few months back one was stuck, the e brake wouldn't return back all the way. When I would put the brake on on an incline, the car would move a little because only one side was engaging properly. I finally decided to check the caliper again and I tried pushing the e brake lever back all the way and it popped back into it's normal position. When I went to test it out, the e-brake flashed and beeped and would disengage without engaging all the way, guess because the calibration was off with now being able to return to it's normal position or something along thise lines.. I disconnected the battery and when I put the E-brake on again it all woked great.
