Check parking brake light on

So I turned on my LS this morning and the check parking brake alert was on. It beeped I believe 4 times and the small light in the epb area came on. Is it a crucial thing to get fixed or is it Ok?

There are several possibilities here. It might be resolved just by following the message center instructions. It could be that your battery is getting weak and has caused this. It could also be that one of the brake cables has snapped or it could be some other problem. Without a parking brake, you have no redundancy to the park gear in the transmission, the transmission may get stuck in park, and you have no backup emergency brake should the main brakes fail.
