Im having a problem with my check engine temp warning coming on and my temp is reading high if i shut my car off and start it back up 90% of the time the temp goes right back to the middle where it is normally then i have no problems. this is only happening once in awhile not all the time. The dealership wants to replace the cooling fan but i dont think that is it. If the car will cool down that fast just shutting it off and turning it back on then how can that be the cooling fan. Please give me some input on this.

check your water/coolant level. I was having a similar problem, filled it up and it hasn't happened since. Could be your thermostat sticking too. Just some ideas.
I had the same symptom when I had the cracked Degas bottle. Fluid level kept dropping WELL below the minimum mark. Replaced the bottle, and the symptom never appeared again.
Just my experience..Im sure other things can cause the same symptom as well.

Dealer Fix
Mine had to be re-flashed. It would reduce engine power and overheat out of nowhere not matter the temperature outside. It was missing a factory "flash" that can also be fixed by replacing the fan clutch or the fan it self, but the honest dealer will tell you it can be fixed by just re-flashing the module.

check the easy stuff first - degas bottle, thermostat, ...
then it is more complicated stuff like CHT (Cylinder Head Temperature) sensor....
