Hey everyone, I put my Mark on the diagnostic computer today and came up with to problems.

1. P0430 Catalyst effency below threshold
2. P0411 Secondary air injection system incorrect flow.

What do these mean and what do I need to do to correct and fix them?
 
The first one is self explanatory. To put it simply, the PCM is noticing that the front and rear O2 outputs are too similar, meaning the cat isn't up to spec. The second one might be a leaking hose, but the secondary air injection system only runs for IIRC 2 minutes on cold startup so it's not particularly important that you fix it right away..

You can try changing the sensors and cat. this is a common OBDII problem and I have had this problem with my 96 and 99 Taurus'. good luck eliminating the problem. I gave up on it and just live with the "service engine soon" light going off and on.
 
If the cats are going bad, what kind of cat would be a suitable replacement? Are we talking about the cats coming off the manifold? What about the pre-cat in the middle?
 
Decided to bring this old post back up to get a different perspective on code P0430. I ended up putting some aftermarket cats on the 97 I had then. I want to get some different perspectives on this code, since it just came on in this car. I was out for a 75 mile cruise around town, and everything was going along smoothly for most of those miles until five miles from the house, the CE light comes on. Who else have had this code pop up, and what did they do to fix it? One thing I want to mention is, is it possible that bad gas can cause this problem? I had about six gallons of gas in my parts car when I removed the tank. I recovered that gas and used it. Is it possible the car is not liking it?
 
past mark i had i gutted the cats but also had a chip and turn off the 02's.
 
Agreed with u I have the second code and I want a solution to it not just a remedy. So I will be changing all o2s and some exhaust work.

I know a solution for the second code. You need a new smog pump. Which is located inside the bumper on the driver's side.
