so my check brake lights message went on my info center and then i noticed the right turn signal is now about 1.5X the speed of the left? but with the hazards on they are both normal. i do not have any brake lights out other than the neon and its been out since i bought the car. i dont think they are the same problem i just think they both happened at once but i dont know. thanks.

same prob, the bulb. bet its burnt out. toss a bulb at it. if thats not it diag further, the neon wont set any message.

definately a loose right rear bulb because when i checked it after the error it was on and the message was off? ill have to check it out.

Mine does that too, at the most inopprotune times...

I just get out, smack the taillight and all is well for a couple of weeks

ya figured that out, i would pull it out get it working put it back in and it would not work, smack the chrome and it works again... stupid.

I must be missing something, because I've tried to get at my right brake light twice now, and I can't access it to change it. Please advise, thanks!

fossten you have to unscrew the 3 bolts that hold it on and take it out from the outside.

and i still have not figured out my problem either right now i have it rigged the orange wire to the purple wire to get the turn signal to work but then the running light does not work and i am getting no voltage from the purple wire to the bulbs ground for some reason and the orange does not light the bulb when connected correctly for some odd reason i even changed the bulbs mount with one from my 95 and i have the same problem.

Ahh...thanks bud. Good luck.

can someone explain to me how the bulb works? there are three wires going to it and it does 3 different functions, here is what i know.there is a ground obviously a orange wire and a purple wire, the purple wire giving voltage for the running light the orange for the turn signal and then there is the brake light but where is the voltage for the brake light coming from? and how does the bulb do 3 functions when there are 2 filaments?

i am thinking that at night the orange wire pulses from a lower voltage for the running light and then for the brake light it increases the voltage to the same filament leaving the other filament (lower) because i can get voltage from both of the orange and the purple wire when tested with a voltmeter to the ground so there is a problem with the socket. i have switched the socket out from my old 95 and still the same problem?

I think its 1 wire for 1 element and 1 wire for the other, I believe they both light up together to function as a break light. That’s with out a schematic in front me. I’m sure someone here can post one up to double check.

one filament is the tail light (usually the longer) and the other filament is the brake/turn, hold the brakes and turn on the turn signal, notice the brake light on that side isnt lit solid, but flashing

i need to just hardwire this thing i have changed the bulb, and the bulb socket with both the ones from my old mark neither work, does anyone know which wires to connect to the bulb? there is 4 wires on the bulb, 2 are ground.

I had a problem like that last year. I would pull out the assembly and put it back in. It would work for a few days and the blinker would go back to hyper speed and the check lights would come on.

I took the entire light assembly out cut the wires and put in a 96' Explorer Sport front blinker socket. Has been working perfect ever since.

Still don't know what went wrong with the original socket as I just threw the damn thing away

i fixed it, it seems that the bulb holder is very sensitive to a bulb being changed i took the other (the second one) assembly out of my othercar (bulb still in tact) and soldered it in and it worked, i think when you take the bulb out when putting it back in it does not connect very well or something
