Changing transmission fluid

There's a "special tool" for refilling the transmission from the drain plug.
To just drain it, remove the drain plug from the pan.
To check the fluid level, keep the outer part of the plug from turning, and remove the inner plug from the coaxial drain plug.

Yes, but make sure that they use the correct fluid (Mercon V), and not any of the so called universal fluids.

12 quarts. I don't have a strong opinion on the brand. Motorcraft is safe though.

Do note that if they just do a pan drop, it will only take four or five quarts. If they do a full fluid transfer, it will take all 12.

Hmmm, what the norm?
I'm not sure there really is a "norm."
Ford recommends that a full fluid exchange be done every 150K miles. Others swear by doing a partial (pan drop) change every 30K miles.

Would it be advisable to do a tranny fluid change on a 05 with 127,xxx miles. Still shifts like a dream. Never had a fluid change before.
