So I changed my IAC and TPS Monday because my idle wasn't going down when I stopped. So now I have the new new IAC and TPS in and have a new idle problem. When stopped at a light my idle is very rough, and also very low (500rpms). If I shift it to park or neutral it goes to 600-700 like it used to;however, in drive and reverse it idles at 500. Anyone know what can cause this?

Thanks for the help.

Check for vaccum leaks, and clean your MAF sensor. You'd be surprised what a difference it makes.

It's always a good idea to disconnect it to prevent any potential problems when messing with elec components, it also resets the computer so that it gets a "fresh start" with the new components.

So I'd pop off the neg terminal and leave it off for a half hour then reconnect it.

I'm going to tackle this problem tomorrow. Any other suggestions? I'd like to go into this with as many options as possible.

I left the battery unplugged overnight and this problem still exists. I will clean my MAF out asap and I'm due to change plugs so I'll do that at the same time. I won't be able to start checking for vac leaks until this weekend but I'm not really sure how to go about that. Any other suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you.

i use ether and carefully spray it around possible trouble areas while at idle. if the idle changes, there is a leak in that area.

Additionally I noticed a few strange characteristics while driving. From a stop the response seems sluggish. When I hit the gas, the rpm jump up high before the car begins to move, often chirping the tires. Also at most speeds when I take my foot off the gas the rpm drop down almost immediately to <1000, whereas before it would come down more smoothly. I hope some of this may help in the diagnosis. I did disconnect the throttle body when changing the parts and I'm wondering if I could have messed something up reconnecting it.
