I was wondering does anyone know if there is an opening to the underbody of the car through the shifter or somewhere around the center console? i need to run some wires and mount a switch.

I've had my console open and I haven't seen any easy way to do what I think you're asking.

hmm ok thanks man. does anyone know if there are any spots anywhere else inside the cabin that lead to the underbody?

There are some on the firewall and some in the trunk. There are wiring channels from the front to the back under the carpet on both sides.

There is an arm below the shifter that extends under the car.

i haven't looked but..the emergency brake would have to go through the floor somewhere in that general area

do you know if there is anyway a wire could be placed by it and lead past the transmission? And if it has a rubber grommet or surround or something that could be made bigger.

its a 2nd gen to...

basically i need to run two wires from a switch mounted inside the cabin to the exhaust under the car basically below the rear seats.

thanks guys for all the input to.

Under the rear seats are access panels to the fuel pumps. There are also grommets under the carpet near the rear door sills that go straight to the ground. Pop off the sill plate, remove the weather stripping from around the door and pull back the rear footwell carpet; you'll see the grommet. That's probably the easiest way to get from the inside out.

thanks man. do you know if this on both pass and driver side? and also why are the grommets there. and how far from the door sill in the rear are they?

Don't know, but imagine so.

Probably to let drain any water that may have accumulated in the rear passenger foot wells.

Not very. If you push back the outside edge of the carpet you should see it.

you could always drill holes exactly where you need them (not under the rear seat and into the gas tank)

On my gen 1, if you remove the rear seat cushion, there is a grommet with wires leading out near the bottom of the seat back. You can access it in 2 minutes or less. But I'm guessing firewall would be a lot shorter distance.
