So, this is my first post here at LVC but have years in others so Ill of course do the search and what not but I MUST ask before this gets worse.. I was at the mall today and walked out to my car to find what looked like a fender bender.. Ended up with the foglight hanging out of the bumper and instantly think WTF; everything else looks good..? Come to find out security cant find anything on camera so I'm pretty much F'ed.. Wasn't so bad tho, replaced the bulb within the hour, everything looked good besides the the bumper which is going to be replaced with the LSE if I can EVER find one.. So, thought whatev, was gonna fix anyway, no need for insurance or anything.. Less than 2 hours later of limping around town afraid of anything going wrong, my CEL came on? Any ideas? Wrong size bulb that I replaced maybe? I've already replaced the oil, oil filter and AC filter and reset the computer. Checked EVERY plug and wire under the hood. I guess while I still have a warranty I'm gonna run it up to the stealership with their BS 100 deductible for fixins.. If someone could help a college kid save a few bucks I would appreciate it and let me know this is normal/easy fix, or just sell the damn thing..?

Go to your local auto parts store they should be able to hook up the scanner and get the code for free

Figures, just thought I would put out a question before going out of my way if it was just a bulb or something.. I never go cheap tho so we'll see what Lincoln says tomorrow and Ill update this when I get it figured out and fixed/resolved..

Replacing a bulb wouldn't trigger a CEL.

Yea but the guy that replaced it could have put the wrong one in.. The male/female connectors are all almost exactly the same so it would be easy to F up and install just something that fit..

You can dead short the wires direct to each other and still not trigger a CEL. If he hooked it up wrong it wouldn't work or blow a fuse and give you a message, not a CEL. Get the codes checked by a local parts store, it's free!;)

Bulbs have ZERO..I mean ZERO..to do with Check Engine Lights. Check Engine Lights relate (mostly) to emissions issues, and/or engine driveability issues. Replacing your oil, oil filter, has NOTHING to do with CEl's. And you could connect that fog light wire to a nuclear reactor..it would have NOTHING to do with a CEL. WTF

There's a reason it's called a check ENGINE light and not a check bulb light.

I never once said it IS from switching the bulb, just saying thats theeee only thing I've touched since I got it 2 weeks ago so nothing else would make sense since I checked everything as stated in my original post... While test driving it I took it to O'riellys auto parts and my buddy plugged it in and the thing was mint.. Something, somewhere has to be loose and I just haven't found it I guess. Im headed to the parts store in 30 so I'll be back and settle this once and for all to ease my mind. Its scary buying a new car and then it has issues in the first couple weeks so I apologize if I'm snappy..

It's cool, just throwing it out there is all.

I'd say it's coincidental. I mean, it IS a Lincoln we're talking about here.

:D

Turns out the o2 sensor became unplugged at some point yesterday but still ran perfect?.. Thanks for all the tips guys!
