OK, so NJ has emissions inspection. What they do is hook your car up to the OBDII scanner and as long as there are no codes you get a sticker and go on your way.

I went on Monday. I had no CEL, so I figured I'd be driving right through. They ran the test and said my OBDII system is not in the "ready" state. That's odd since I haven't disconnected the battery in a long time.

I thought, maybe it's the chip doing something odd, so I disconnected the battery and I pulled the chip. It's a Reinhart chip BTW.

I left the chip off and figured I'd drive around for a bit and let it get out of readiness since I took the cable off the battery. Well here I am at 180 miles since then and the CEL popped on. P0174 lean.

I also have an LMS MAF. I remember getting P0174 lean when I first got it and Geno said to clock the MAF around and try again. I remember having some success with that.

I guess I could put the stock box back on and pass inspection. What should I do after inspection? Was the Reinhart chip preventing the computer from learning parameters, thus I was driving around for the past 7 years with a P0174 not knowing? I've run a 14.09 1/4 mile at Atco like this. I want to put my chip and MAF back in but I also want the car running right. Suggestions?

1st thing is 1st.

Throw the stock stuff back on, Pass emissions, and figure it out from there. As far as the chip keeping it from "learning" I doubt it very highly. Have you done a tune up lately? This could just be the car saying it needs some work.

I agree with mike about passing emissions, its only a 5 min ordeal to swap out the maf. After passing i'd put the chip and lms maf back in and clear the code to see if it comes up again. If it does go from there.

OK, I'll do that and then report back. Hopefully I'll be able to find all the stock parts for the MAF.
