My 93 has many mini mods going on with it. This one is to get the steering wheel to fit onto the shaft. The center inserts on the Gen 1 is different than the Gen 2. So first I had to remove the center insert from the Gen 1, and the Gen 2, and put the Gen 1 insert into the Gen 2 wheel. It's great when you have a machine shop at your disposal. The Gen 1 insert is straight knurled, and the Gen 2 wheel is diamond knurled, so they just wont just insert. After I drilled out the insert, the center became oversized. So next I had my welding buddy to fill in the center with weld. Next I have to bore out the center and knurl the ends to press in the Gen 1 insert. Here is what I have so far.

My 93 is just about finished with the interior, so I needed speed up the fabrication of the CE steering wheel fit on the 93. Due to the lightweight pot aluminum the steering wheel is made of, my aluminum weld fill in didn't hold, so I had to rethink how I was going to do this. What I did was use a 1/8th piece of of scrap metal I had laying around the shop. I then machined it to match the back side of the wheel. It's strategically held together with four hex screws. I tapped little pieces of scrap for the screws, fitted them in openings on the steering wheel to act as an anchor. After some Loctite on the screws, they wont be coming back out. Next is to line up the insert and weld it in place.

*is reminded of that time my 70 F-100 steering wheel fell in lap on freeway*

I cut the center out of the gen 2 wheel, and welded in the the center of a spare gen 1 wheel I had.

I'm sort of doing the same thing. The Gen 1 wheel is made of a stronger material than that of the Gen 2. My way I am reenforcing the the wheel making it stronger.
