I just installed the grille on my gen1. I ended up painting the part of the hood that is visible through the mesh black. My car is silver and it stuck out like a sore thumb..

There are rivets holding the two hood pieces together. It would, IMHO, need to be smoothed and painted black so as to be so noticeable.

Oh yeah, I painted that part too. You can't notice it if you paint it black. Next time I see you I'll take mine so you can see, if you haven't made yours by then
