My Alpine 6 CD Changer earlier today, was working just fine until I ejected my CD #6, to put in a different one. It came out fine, then made the usual noises like it's switching over to CD 5 like it usually does automatically. It made some noises like usual, then it stopped for about 3 seconds, and CD ERROR came up on the display. I looked inside and could see nothing that was jammed like it sometimes does ejecting CD's, but nothing could be found, and a random paperclip fondling didn't help neither.

Any ideas? or am I stuck going to the damned dealer to get this issue fixed.

The changer in my NAV unit would do this every so often. Usually it cured itself after a key on/off cycle or two. One time it didn't cure for a few days, then it suddenly came back while driving. I had it replaced under warranty. Mine would mess up not only when ejecting a CD, but also when just changing from one CD to another.

Tried fuses, disconnecting the battery, on/off cycles the whole works, I gotta take the thing out.

does anybody have step by step instructions on how to take it out? I read you have to take out the middle Air Vents and the wood panel by the cigarette lighter and take out some screws. I would like some more detailed and step by step instructions if possible... all I can find is a $4 tututorial online that I don't really trust...

I use to have that problem when I bought my LS. That's why I got hurry up and got rid of the factory radio. That use to bug me. My number six slot would hang up and I would have to try to push on the cd with something in order to get it to come out. Good luck with that at the dealer. Have you ever thought about going aftermarket?

Here are the steps to take out the factory radio.

1. Take a screw driver and pry at the bottom of the vents above the radio. Once they pop out a little, then just pull it out and disconnect the harness to it.

2. Pry the wood grain trim around the cigarette lighter and pull up on it. It will pop right off. You will see two screws holding the cigarette light secure. Unscrew them pull the ashtray forward.

3. You will see a total of four bolts at the top and bottom once you have these pieces removed. Take them out and the whole thing will come out including the climate controls. Once you get it out far enough, disconnect the harnesses and there you have it.
