I need to replace my catalytic converters cause they keep turning my check engine light. I would erase the code and after driving for a couple of miles it will be back on.

Ive searched online but couldnt find much for the LS. Mines a 2000 V6.

I wanna cut em off and put a straight pipe instead and find a way to keep the light off.

Has anyone done this?

I was just wondering the same thing, but for a gen 1 V8. I wanna just remove mine, but sometimes that does more harm than good performancewise.

really? I thought it should make the car run better. Does anyone make full system ehaust for the ls6? From headers to tips?

You could do this and use a xcal to turn off the downstream 02 all it doesis measure efficency.

Xcal would be awesome, I just cant afford it yet. I thought about cutting em open and empty them. Then banish the sensors with some fittings i guess to keep the engine light off. But if it wont make the car run better it makes no sense. :(

less restriction for sure. I hear that sometimes that hollowed out chamber can have a negative aspect on performance though.

Less restriction, exactly! That's what I thought, and about the shape of them not helping too, that's why I wanted to erase them and put a piece of tube instead.

Banishing the sensors you will always have a CEL, you need to replace them with a dummy sensor to trick the computer. Of course if you live in a state with emission test your screwed.

Ok, the O2 matter seems solved ! Now, empty them or replace for a tube?

They say there is no performance gain but on my mark I gained 4-5 mpg's when I did it.

Yeah I can't afford a custom exhaust as I'd like, so I'm doing it as soon as return arrives.

yea but i dunno about you guys, but around here there are always shops that will pass emission inspections with a little extra on the side, problem is, unless you personally know someone that works at the shop or has some pull, they wont do it for you for fear that you are undercover and will shut them down cuz they fine up the ass for passing emission especially with cars that have the cat delete.

Nevada smog test is computerized, all readings from the OBDII, no way to make adjustments to what is being read, the results are even instantaneously up loaded to the state.

Same thing in my state....I dunno wut they do but they do it....difference is it's a state inspection facility....not the actual motor vehicle public inspection center

Are you 100% sure you wont lose some torque (which to me, is even more important than HP) by reducing the backpressure when you remove the cats? (nevermind the environmental impact)

He's planning on keeping the rest of the exhaust right? It sounds like he just wants to remove them and reconnect the rest of his exhaust which will be better then just dumping after the manifold, at least IMO.

LS6, I hate to say it but your best bet is to weld it. But, if I were to try not to weld I'd use a band clamp to connect whatever straight piping you put in place of the cats. If you don't don't what an exhaust band clamp is then use google images.

Wait, I thought HP was just a function of torque...

But yes, less backpressure will move the power curve to the higher rpm ranges.

I would think that on all newer vehicles, removing would cause more performance wise than good. Like I stated in the Off Road Exhaust thread, aftermarket cats are about 45 shipped each.. You would need about 4 feet of stainless to strait pipe and at 15 a foot (I keep using this as a reference because this is the price I could get it at. I know you can go online and get it for like 10). So for about 30 more, you could have real good cats and better mileage. With doing my COPs and the exhaust, my MPGs went from 21.6 to 25.8..

Pektel:
IDK if you were being sarcastic but torque is the ft lbs. jumping off the line, or in better words, how fast you can jump off the line. Once moving, it's all hp..
