Cat converters

If i were to just gut my cats and weld them back together would it set off any lights or codes? 2000 ls sport v-8. Also how loud would this sucker sound?
I have custom exhaust now and sometimes my back seats vibrate,lol!! I am getting extremely bad gas mileage too!! I figured as long as all of oxygen sensors are in it shouldn't set anything off. Just want to be sure before i do it. Thanks!!! BTW i'm in pa we have emissions laws but they are only visual so as long as you have them on car its all good and they don't need to work. We don't have the pipe sniffers yet and i hope we never do!!!

The lights you would get are the o2 saying that the cats aren't working. Imo, get the cats off of eBay.. 45 a piece and they flow great. Improved gas mileage by 1-2 mpgs..
