Was driving yesterday down a city street and I heard a loud pop come from the engine bay :(. Went to examine and My CAI air filter popped off somehow and it seemed pretty hot under the hood as well....Drove it home and the car would not go pass 35mph. No check engine light. I do believe I have a vaccaum leak because there a continous whistle noise coming from the throttle body that was present before the car started acting up. The noise did not get any louder after the incident. Also, I'm stil having issue keeping the car at the correct temp. I have replaced all the cooling system hoses and replaced the radiator cap plus degas cap with the bottle. This is a 2005 LS V8 with 108000 miles. I'm really thinking about selling it as is because I have been bombarded with problems lately. Any help would be appreciated

Unplug your MAF and see if it will go faster then. I suspect that it is not correctly reading airflow, either because of your intake, it being dirty, or you have an air leak (whistle sound) somewhere.

Thanks Joe, I got the car to run fine again but I believe the air filter popped off due to the excessive heat under the hood which still is a problem. The gauge is pointing at about 9:30 constantly after driving for about 20 minutes...I'll try bleeding the system again and see whats up....You think the water pump could possibly be faulty or even radiator....

By 9:30, do you mean half way? That's the normal and correct position. If you don't hear the engine fan running at maximum speed, you're not overheating. Heat won't make air filters pop off. Either yours is not attached correctly, or you had a (very rare) backfire.

If your still worried about the air filter coming off screw it to the intake tube

Degas bottle cracked? Engine coolant temp switch working? With the vehicle running & cap off the degas bottle, squeeze top radiator hose to see if air comes out of degas bottle, if so pump squeeze until it doesn't. May release small air pockets in system. Worked for me! Engine must be up to normal operating temp first.
