I have been dealing with a misfire now since last fall but it never threw a code. It seemed to occur after the car was warmed up, usually on the drive home. It started as a slight chug and recently happened daily. Last week while backing out of a parking spot it was surging almost feeling like it was going to stall. Same thing happened this morning but FINALLY the check engine light came on and drove like crap. Dropped it off at the dealership today with 98k miles and mentioned the 100k coil warranty, the service manager knew exactly what i was talking about and agreed to take a look at it. I was expecting to have them deny and give me the run around. Just got a call that the tech found atleast one bad coil, possibly more and it would be taken care of. Whats crazy is all eight coils were replaced in Oct. 07 with 48k miles. Its amazing that the coils seem to have a lifespan of under 50k miles. I'm looking forward to seeing exactly what and how many were replaced for a 2nd time.

A couple side notes, i checked out a MKS in the showroom and they look really really nice up close. The exhaust still erks me but the interior is a big upgrade from the LS in quality. Also they gave me a Ford Fusion as a rental and i think those arent bad little cars, not so much for me but i would definately consider one for my wife. The ones with leather, sunroof and sync navigation are a great car for the price. I was very surprised.

Yup if you look mostly all the common problems happen around 50K give or take a few less or more.

Mines running just over 80k now, and as far as I know, it's all original parts??? The carfax the dealer showed us said it was only serviced for oil changes. Is my 02 LSE covered by that 100k coil warranty?

I dont know what years it covers. I got a letter dated June 2008, states "Customer Satisfaction Programs 07M07/07M09". Extends the warranty for coils to 10 yrs/100k miles. It states the coverage is automatically transferred to subsequent owners, i wonder how many people are covered yet dont know about it? One thing is for sure... Im satisfied !

I just replaced my coils and spark plugs (I was having the same issues you mentioned). I noticed a bit of oil on one of my sparkplugs, but I never did replace the Vavle cover gaskets, now its about 300miles later and I can notice very faint hints of the same issues, will I need to replace the coil again when I replace the gaskets, or can I get away with just replacing the sparkplug?

The best way around recurring problems like that is to swap all of the coils and plugs out at the same time along with what ever boots and crap that are shot.

Oh and since the VCG is what causes the oil to leak in they are a must!!!

No just 2nd gen (03- 06) Lincolns LS's.

03-06 V8's dealer told me the TSB didnt cover 6 cylinders, so I bought the coils off Ebay, didnt realize that my aftermarket warranty would cover it.

If anybody needs coils, I am the man lol

Yeah, I just replaced my coils, plugs and also changed my valve cover gasket. Seems the real issue on the V6 is the fact the plugs are inside valve cover and when it leaks the oil pools and foils out the coil.

I have a 2003 V8 with 90,000 miles on it and had the same issue. Took it to the local dealer and they replaced all plugs, coils, valve gasket and wiper cowl. Very pleased with result and the 1/2 mpg I got after it was done. However, I was informed that if it happened again, it would not be covered

Eeewwwrrr That kind of noise? I hate it!

The first time I heard it while test driving I looked at the salesman like what the f*ck! He looked at me and we both rolled the windows down.

yeah tha ac sometimes calls my friends by name, he was in the passenger seat and when i turned on the ac all we heard was "breeeeent"

Got the car back today, only one coil replaced.. #3 coil. Drives like a dream again. I like how my dealer gives you rentals while your car is been fixed, just makes you love your LS that much more when you get it back. The Fusion was alright, HORRRIBLE torque pull when accelerating. Havent driven a FWD for awhile, if i let go of wheel it would literally pull me over to the next lane.

Great!

Glad you found the problem and it was an easy fix. I'm still running my original plugs and coils at 104k. A little rough on cold mornings but warms right up to smooth as silk. I have an 01V6. I bought 6 new coils, someday when I'm in the mood I may change the plugs and coils. Good luck.
