ok im sorry if this has been asked before ,

a little back story, a year ago i drove about 300 miles back to my home town with my phone plugged in to the charger in Texas heat, the phone from overheating actually turned off twice on the way down,(dont kno if that would matter) the outlet has not worked since , but the lighter socket works which confuses me, i checked the fuse by the passenger door (from my understanding of the manual) but its fine,
i tried different chargers thinking that my old one might have gone out to no avail
what could it be?

The phone????

Are you saying that the lighter works, but the power point does not? They are different fuses.
The lighter is fuse 22 in the cabin fuse box. It's 20 Amps.
The console power point is fuse 10 in the trunk. 20 Amps.
The ashtray power point is fuse 12 in the trunk. 20 Amps.

Something is weird if the phone overheated to the point of shutdown.

Either your charger or your phone were drawing too much current, which could blow the fuse (see joegr's post). Does that charger work when used in other places?

my iphone has overheated several times being subject to direct sunlight or extreme heat. If the charging cable itself is causing this, it may be because its a cheap .99 cent cable.

This was exactly what I was trying to say, thank you, will definitely check the trunk

The charging cables worked everywhere else, Def not 99cent cable I learned my lesson with those, phone do shut down to prevent damage when in extreme heat, I was using mine as gps/dash cam mounted on my dash

I see now. The screen was constantly on, and it was placed in the sun. Makes sense it could overheat.
