ehhhhh nice positioning.... why the stock tubing with baffles? I'm sure there is a gain from what you did, but its just like an exhaust. To really see a difference you need to do the headers and cats. Looks and sounds good though
 
Good work. You will want to do the rest of the plumbing for the intake sooner or later.

Why just a idle clip? That really don't show anything with the sound of the intake. You should at least give us a few revs.
 
i spent 60 buck after buying the filter and tubing... I only did a idle clip because i did strait pipes and got new tips. it souds alot better the intake really dows make any noise... Atleast i can't hear it over the exhaust....

I just used 3 inch exhaust pipe. started with 2 feet with a 90 degree bend in the middle... then cut it to fit..
 
What I would have done was bought the KKM or K&N adapter. They come with filters and you could have just used a coupler to hold the bent pipe you added to the adapter.

How is the pipe held to the MAF now?
 
I just Did mine wit a basic bent tube and shaped it to slide through that hole . but i a plan on re modifying it again. for optimal performance. but gas mileage is alot better with the CAI.
even with the 20''s i still get 23 - 25 mpg on the hwy. and in the city 17 - 19
but here is a picture ill take more pictures later.

The pipe is mounted to the mass air with a mass air flange that i made...just like a adapter but welded strait to the pipe.... no couplers needed

the only thing i want to do different is make a pipe strait to the throttle body, then paint it all gloss black not flat...grabbed the wrong can in the garage LOL
 
Some some money boss...just cut the baffle off the front of the stock intake tube....epoxy a piece of plastic off the baffle over the hole, and be done with it. no offense but your not going with a polished/show quality intake look, so go the cheaper route and use what you already have.
 
Is there a general consensus on the best cai solution for V8's? Or should I just order the intake pip and the kkm from lskoncepts
 
I like what i have done... I race a buddy of mine all the time... he has a RSX type S, since the cold air and muffler removal i have gain any where from a half a car to a car over what i was already beating him by... also since i have done the cold air i noticed better throttle response...

its a fun little project that you get a good gain from... to be honest i think your better off with the stock air box over the kkm... just for the fact that its a hot air intake...

I already have see two people on this forum talking about there car running crappy with that hot air intake in the summer... mine i have no problems and cant wait for winter
 
the one from autozone will work.. u just kinda knock it outta that round shape into an oval like matter so it can fit into that slot. check out mine.
 
You would rather make the hole larger then obstruct the flow.

TDUB, as long as it is the right diameter it will work fine. I think I am going out today to find some pipe and do mine.

the one from autozone? are you talking about the Spectre Flexible plastic tubing with the ridges? The same amount of cash will get you an already bent section of 3" exhaust tubing.... paint it.


as for show quality and such, I paid 20 to make mine... well 60 total but I've made 3 revisions to it. Mine looks FAR better than the ones you can buy or epoxying the stock and its not even dry yet. Get some filler primer, sand it and repeat. Then use a High Gloss as close to your cars color as you can get or black and do three light coats. Wet sand and recoat untill it is smooth like glass. Then clear coat it the same way you painted it. Buff with a polishing compound / scratch remover type of product. Watch the judges poop in thier pants at the quality of the custom fabrication. (welding and grinding are paramount dont use silicone couplers they look ricey)

Its a coupler, it serves its purpose and what else are you supposed to use?


Not to be offensive but I would also like to see this one that looks so much better. I don't understand how much better it can get unless you go ahead and powder coat it ( I'm being honest and not trying to come off like a jerk:) ).

I do agree how ever that you should just go out and find some 3" stainless or unfinished metal pipe rather then those junker things.
 
weld the pipes together.... from the TB to the MAF is a small enough piece to install all in one. The LS is so gorgeous in its simplicity that the silicone couplers are way to busy and with varying colors to flashy! Flashy look at me color crap is what made the Fast and the Funniest possible!

just my .02 I posted a pic of the basic layout of mine. There are plenty of ideas in here that you can come up with what you like best.

Oh ok, then in that case I agree that if you are doing it section by section to many couplers can be to much but the two basic ones are needed to hold to the TB and to hold to the MAFS. Those have got to be a given.
 
Yup... those two are needed even though there are technically ways around it, but I would agree that couplers are needed. You could get pressure clamps that will have a better hold and look better.
 
Just get the 3" exhaust pipe and cut it down the other stuff is just as cheap.

I have looked at Auto Zone Advanced and a Mom and Pop store along with Lowe's and I haven't found anything in the proper diameter. I would hate to have to buy it online, that would just be annoying.


NHLS, what type of pressure clamps are you taking about. The silicone couplers help keep a good seal and are way more logical. Also if they are not done in excess which I cant really see that happening IMO they help some what dress the engine up if you ask me be it red blue or black couplers.
 
I went to local parts store... they sell 3"OD exhaust tubing.... pre bent for you and everything. AZ I know sells piping as well, but I dont know about 3". Ask the guys behind the counter because stores tend to hide it in the back.

I've never heard fo or seen this metal intake stuff from AZ. But if its anything like exhaust piping, then it should be fine. The key is the smoothness of the inside. The plastic stuff I was tlaking about causes MASSIVE turbulence and is probably worse than most any stock intake tubing.

The Clamps I'm talking about are hard to describe.... they are a pice of sheet metal with two tbolts to create a seal. A version of them is used by the Navy to patch ruptured pipes..... thats how storng the seal is. The silicone ones are fine, infact thats what I'm sing. But two of them vise the several I've seen on here with 5 or 6. Color matching is key to dressing an engine. If you have the yellow accel coils, maybe yellow coulpers would work. Allot is personal preference. IMO this engine bay needs black.... and maybe some MINOR silver accents
