I didn't have my dealer do it, but there was a note on my service record recommending the cabin air filter service for $89.95. I have mine in for several warranty issues.

This seems very high to me for what is a pretty easy job. The filter costs between $20(regular) to $35(carbon) at the parts shops. The service would take maybe 10 minutes if you did it yourself and were slow witted, so the dealer price is pretty high if you know which end of the screwdriver is dangerous.

I do not know if this service includes the seat filters too, but I doubt it.

Just thought I would warn people not to be surprised at the cost if they do have the dealer do this service.

I just blow mine out with compressed air.

who in their right mind would pay $90 for that? i almost laughed when i switched mine out. it's comparable to switching out an air filter.

I bought a motorcraft cabon airfilter from rockauto.com for $30. extremely easy to install. I probably could have gotten a generic one for less but I thought I would stick with the motorcraft.

The dealer is crazy for charging that much money, my local dealer quoted me $80, I actually laughed at him when he told me the price.

That's where manufacture's make most of there money. On service repairs not covered by warranty or after the warranty expires. I too have blown out my filter because it was still a descent bright white color and only had a few bugs in it. I'd like to see a comparison between any manufacturer's total car sells income vs. their service repair income. I'd say you'd be amazed.

In this scenario, the manufacturer, Ford, isn't making money on anything other than the parts, which is peanuts. That $90 is almost all labor, which goes to the dealership.

And changing the cabin air filter is easier than changing the engine air filter. About the only filter that's easier to change is the seat filter--the only thing that's even challenging about that is finding the mount with your hands to reinstall it...

[sarcasm]You mean a dealer overcharges you?[/sarcasm]

I'm sorry, but your barking up the wrong tree. Since my family owned a Ford dealership for over 20 years, I have the knowledge base here. You can't get a service department out of the red unless you pass on a bunch of the parts department profits to the service department. With what Ford requires you to buy every year, the amount of training your are required to provide to your techs, etc etc, it's a tough nut to crack. Sales is where a dealership earns it's money. From the profit on the sale, to the holdbacks, to the F & I, it's where the money is made.

Somewhat true. There are some dealershipe that depend on their sales, but there are also some that live off of there serice dept. I know people that own several diffrent dealerships in diffrent areas.

Well thxs for setting me straght then.

My message center told me mine was needing to be replaced a while back, I asked the dealer and they tols me $90, I thought he said $19 at first cause $90 was way too high for a job like that.

I replaced mine a few mopnths ago. Just recently my message center told me ineeded it to be changed. No way im changing it every 3 months!!

I think it bases it on time and not actually how dirty it is. I just reset mine everytime it gets low but it's probably needing it soon, I'm up to around 26k now....

Dealership making money off of me

My car is back in the shop because the passenger window regulator or whatever decided to break. (this was covered by the warrenty only $100.00) Just got it out 2 weeks ago after having a tire replaced and the brakes worked on. I told them the brakes were still squealing after they worked on them. They told me I have to replace the ceramic pads CarX put on last year with regular motorcraft pads!

I'm tired of the squealing, they told me the new pad will have a 30,000 mile warrenty not to squeal.

Well see!

thats is crazy, we charge around 110-120 bucks for a 15,000 mile service, wich includes changing the cabin filter, oil change, tire rotation, and multi-point inspection.
