i changed my pcv valve and valve cover gaskets. everything was ok when i turned it on, i let it idle for about 10 mins and i was taking it for a drive. i drove like 4 feet without accelerating and i heard a weird metalish noise, and it stalled and wont turn on.

i had it towed to a electric shop and they told me my cranckshaft wont turn. engine locked up. i need to take it to a mechanic shop but they told me it'll cost around 2,000 dlls or so. its a 2002 v6, i dont think its worth it. because i;ve seen those cars being sold for 3,000.


i guess ill just drive a f*cking honda or some stupid unimpressive car until i buy another luxury car. but thats what i get for messing with lincoln

i want that grille, i got a tri coat 05 and i want one of those grilles.
 
how does an engine that has the proper amount of oil in it and isnt submerged in water...just lock like that?
 
Something wasn't put back together correctly.
 
sorry to hear that. Put it this way, if you love the car then its worth the money to fix, if not get something else. Im sure the v6's are harder to find than the v8's though.
 
i think i may have connected wrong the intake hoses and some water got inside the engine, im not sure of that, its just a reasonable theory of what couldve happened.

i dont really have a plan because i could sell it like that for what? 1,500 bucks? i will take it back home tomorrow and take it apart again. i dont know what to do :( ill let you know maybe ill part it out
 
Damn that sucks! Maybe you can purchase another lincoln ls for the price of a honda..
 
I'd pull the fan belt and retry cranking the motor first. There have been occasions on even motors up to the Powerstroke diesel where the A/C compressor has locked up and won't let the motor turn.

It has also happened with idler pulleys and tensioners.
 
there is a brand new/reman 1st gen V6 long block w/accessorries on ebay right now for 1900 if I remember correctly...

And I saw a few used motors for as low as 300.

If it ran and idled for 10 mins, maybe the engine was cold then it warmed up and the thermostat kicked in allowing water in (if you did have the intake hoses connected wrong as stated above)?

There are other threads about getting the water out of the engine, which may allow the engine to turn if that's the case. Maybe it's still salvageable and the engine is ok. If it does have water in there, I would think getting it out soon would be best. I don't remember the process to do it... pulling the plugs cranking the engine and changing the oil if I recall.

I am sure someone will jump in here and offer what your next steps would be if this is the case. Here's a thread that came up using "water in engine" via the search function:

Had that happen to my last marquis. I knew it was the a/c comp though as the clutch had been making noise for months. The car tried to turn over for .5sec and just hit a huge roadblock right away.
 
Sorry to hear that you're ride crapped out. Honestly , I think you would make more money parting it out. I sold my 00 ,3.9. For $700.
But that's after I removed about 1/5 of the entire vehicle for parts. And a big thanks to everyone who helped me make some cash and experience tearing off random stuff ! But I can definitely tell you I made allot more selling parts than the $ 700.

Good thing to do considering a lot of parts are hard to come by.

The a/c clutch in my brother's f150 went out on the highway. The truck stopped at highway speeds because of it. Can't hurt to check. Unless I'm interpreting this story and my brothers story wrong.
 
Sorry to hear about your ls. I just had the timing tensioners go on mine, bent the valves and marred the pistons. so i have a new engine going in it. I also thought about getting a new car but for the cost of putting a new motor as opposed to buying a new car it was cheaper to do a new motor. That and I love my LS.
 
sounds very unusual

something does not sound right here. is it possible you dropped a nut or bolt into the engine? It's almost impossible to mixup the hoses, they are all custom fits. check to make sure all the connectors are right on the rear of the engine, did you forget to connect something?????? strange,,,,wait? you said it idled for 10 minutes????? if it idled for 10 minutes without a problem, then the engine should be good, maybe you have a tranny problem. My tranny died at 75k miles, weird metallic noise then crapped out.

Sounds like a perfect time to drop in an LS1 and a 6 speed!




SRSLY though. Valve covers and a PCV valve should have nothing directly to do with the engine locking up. There had to have been some other prior problem. Was the engine low on oil, knocking or anything like that prior to the repairs?
 
There is no way that a hose mix-up would allow water into a cylinder. And there seems to be a lot of guessing going on. If you, personally, don't have enough experience to do a diagnosis, please find someone who can give you definitive answers.

+1......definitely seek out the help of a certified mechanic and communicate what exactly their findings were
