Great performance out of a 99 3-series? lol... Who cares if its an i or ic or whatever letter you stick on there, when I see a bmw, I only look at the first digit anyway. Sure you can say you drive a BMW, but are you going to want to say yeah it's a 99 3 series? no.

No lie....
Dude, tell me you're joking... a 2.8L I6?!?!?!
190 HP at 5300 RPM
206 Ft-Lbs at 3950 RPM
3395lbs Curb Weight

Please do tell me how that equals great performance!!!!

Mark IIIV, 4.6L DOHC
290 HP at 5750 RPM
290 Ft-Lbs at 4500 RPM
3785lbs Curb Weight

Weight difference of 390lbs... with the already sad power numbers from the factory on the BMW, it would not keep up with the Mark... Only real benefit to the 3 series is the 5-speed gear box and a bit sportier factory suspension (but as someone said earlier, you can have a SICK mark for $12k that will spank the hell out of most cars out there... suspension included)... but that's nothing to be proud of; put a turbo on that engine and watch the weak 5-speed turn into road debris... Atleast the 4R70W with minor in car upgrades can handle 350-400 crank HP.

Lets not even start to discuss the ability to produce massive amounts of power... anyone with half a brain knows the 4.6L wins on that one.

And my final note... when someone sees a guy driving a 99 BMW 3 series you know what they think? They don't think... "damn he's got a BMW!!!" They think: "HAHAHA, not only can he not afford a NEW BMW, but he can't even afford a 5 series!!! I wonder if he stole that 9 year old 3 series from his girl friend?!?!?" No joke... the 3 series is the poor mans BMW... and really, no one WANTS a 9 year old 3 series... it's what they can afford, and they want to drive a BMW. So that's what they get.

I'm not busting your balls... I'm just trying to tell you the facts; 3 series, unless an M3 get zero respect... not even by BMW guys. The Mark gets plenty of respect from Lincoln/blue oval guys, and anyone that finds out what's under the hood....

uh great.. youre just a real stand up guy.. your opinions awesome on 3 series! i dont see your pics in your gallery.. lemme guess..... markVII? I want a fuc king 99 9 year old 3 series.. just because you cant afford it... dont talk shi7 kid. im not getting the car for respect.. ive got an ls for that. i want the car because i like it. i dont need anymore of your opinions since youre rude and snooty. ;)

c stands for convertible big man. ;) im sure if i went to a beamer forum..... theyd be saying the same biased shi t about ford. were all biased.. well us closed minded peeps... i try to keep an open mind and not be blind.

And I'm not close minded at all... I'm more than willing to admit that Japan puts out a more reliable car than anyone else... the statistics tell the truth... and they also tell me that BMW, Merc., Audi.... all rate highest... for number of repairs!!! (Volvo is the only euro brand that rates decent)

Nope... I don't own a mark... never even driven one. I currently own an F-150 4x4 and my LS... plus a boat which has the horrible GM derived 3.0L mercruiser I/O in it (If only it had the 4.3L)... okay it's not that horrible, but it's nothing to get excited about either.

I think you should respect people a little more... I'm not a kid (chances are I'm older than you), and I never dropped any F-bombs. I was showing/telling you the facts. You said you wanted reliable... that is not BMW (at-least not that generation; new ones supposedly aren't as bad)... you said you wanted fast/sporty... the only 3 series that fits that bill is the M3... and for the DTS mention, you said you wanted a good ride... again, NOT a BMW.

I don't feel a need to put pictures of my vehicles up... There isn't anything special about my black on black LS with 15% tint... looks just like all the rest of them on here. The truck... well, this isn't F-150 online so...

If you want the car that bad, go ahead and buy it, but you come on here looking for opinions, when someone gives them to you, mixed in with some indisputable facts... don't get pissy...

i asked for opinions.. not rudeness. i only started being defensive when you and others posted rude a55 comments..

"and for the DTS mention, you said you wanted a good ride... again, NOT a BMW." did you miss the post where i said "i changed my mind?"

I'm glad you found a good way to put that, it's exactly what I wanted to say.

dude... its you're. christ.. its almost like... you couldnt afford a lambo.. so you bought a lincoln.. makes no sense at all.. a 5 series and 3 series are totally diff cars... some 3 series cost more than the 5... you again dont know what youre talking about..

heh.. we passed the whole grammer and spelling thing a long time ago e-tuff. were talking about your non-existent car now. pwnt... noob..... l33t. :p

You're a fool. I don't need to take pictures of my stock LS so that people will believe I have one, because it's such an elite car and I'm better than everyone. It looks just like the rest of them plus some tint and a grill.

dude.. you aint gotta lie to kick it main! people will like you just the way you are!

midi... just a word of advise... don't rip on the typing, spelling or grammar mistakes of others. I'd have to take my shoes off to count how many you've made in the first page of this topic alone. Not that I'm perfect... but I very rarely do I jump on someone for things of that nature.

Tell me you are not actually basing your car buying on a car review forum... Great way to get accurate unbiased info...

Consumer Reports goes about collecting their information MUCH, MUCH different. Edmund's just asks you to rate it without giving any guidance or formula... and answers are not compared across the entire rating pool. (much like the tire reviews on Tire Rack; it's all based on opinion, not facts... someone that has driven with $45 tires all their life and suddenly jumps up to $110 tires will understandably rate them 10's across the board... matters not that they can't hold .1g on the wet skid pad. It is all averaged together, so hopefully you minimize those people, but their ratings SHOULD NOT be used as a basis for purchase because there is no way to determine accuracy)

Consumer Report, you fill out a detailed survey listing vehicle makes, models, years and mileage. Then you tell them what repairs you've had to do. They then compile all of this information... give different categories different weight depending upon the age of the vehicle. Once this is all done and they've got numbers for all vehicles, they find a mean score and then assign a standard deviation for that mean score. This is how it is determined what "average" would be (or, a rating of a 5 on a 1-10). From there, the numbers are crunched some more to determine "below average", "worse", "above average", and "excellent".

It's call statistics... and it is pretty accurate. If you can show me something that actually has some sort of mathematical basis, testing basis or solid, statistical basis... then I'd be more than happy to admit I'm wrong. With that stuff, you could write an essay or review for a publication... with Edmund's reviews, you'd get laughed out of the editorial office.

3-Series, 2008 MSRP Range: $32,400 - $49,100
5-Series, 2008 MSRP Range: $44,300 - $82,900
6-Series, 2008 MSRP Range: $75,600 - $105,100

WOW... $4800 difference between the max MSRP on the 3-series and min MSRP on the 5-series. Really something to write home about...

The lambo to Lincoln comparison... HORRIBLE. You're talking a $250k car to a... what, at best $55k vehicle? One is purely a sports car, the other is a people mover...

The 3 series is the base model BMW, the smallest, the cheapest. Here's a good comparison... it's like buying a Porsche Boxster... while that is a decent car, the reality is that it's a poor man's Porsche which will never live up to it's bigger, older brothers... the 993, 996, 997... 959, GT1, CGT. It doesn't matter if you have a base Boxster or Boxster S... It's still the poor man's Porsche.

my grammar may be shady... but my spelling is not. two diff stories when typing.

Wow Midi, maybe you should just not post anymore. Almost all your threads end up like this. What's the point?

Only time I say anything about spelling and grammar ON A FORUM is when the post is nearly illegible. midi, your posts are nearly illegible.
