Great performance out of a 99 3-series? lol... Who cares if its an i or ic or whatever letter you stick on there, when I see a bmw, I only look at the first digit anyway. Sure you can say you drive a BMW, but are you going to want to say yeah it's a 99 3 series? no.
No lie....
Dude, tell me you're joking... a 2.8L I6?!?!?!
190 HP at 5300 RPM
206 Ft-Lbs at 3950 RPM
3395lbs Curb Weight
Please do tell me how that equals great performance!!!!
Mark IIIV, 4.6L DOHC
290 HP at 5750 RPM
290 Ft-Lbs at 4500 RPM
3785lbs Curb Weight
Weight difference of 390lbs... with the already sad power numbers from the factory on the BMW, it would not keep up with the Mark... Only real benefit to the 3 series is the 5-speed gear box and a bit sportier factory suspension (but as someone said earlier, you can have a SICK mark for $12k that will spank the hell out of most cars out there... suspension included)... but that's nothing to be proud of; put a turbo on that engine and watch the weak 5-speed turn into road debris... Atleast the 4R70W with minor in car upgrades can handle 350-400 crank HP.
Lets not even start to discuss the ability to produce massive amounts of power... anyone with half a brain knows the 4.6L wins on that one.
And my final note... when someone sees a guy driving a 99 BMW 3 series you know what they think? They don't think... "damn he's got a BMW!!!" They think: "HAHAHA, not only can he not afford a NEW BMW, but he can't even afford a 5 series!!! I wonder if he stole that 9 year old 3 series from his girl friend?!?!?" No joke... the 3 series is the poor mans BMW... and really, no one WANTS a 9 year old 3 series... it's what they can afford, and they want to drive a BMW. So that's what they get.
I'm not busting your balls... I'm just trying to tell you the facts; 3 series, unless an M3 get zero respect... not even by BMW guys. The Mark gets plenty of respect from Lincoln/blue oval guys, and anyone that finds out what's under the hood....
