Burping the cooling system

I've had the absolute worst day so bear with me.

Tranny line wouldn't come out of the radiator, so I gave up and put everything back together. I don't have the patience to deal with it.

Anyways..

Filled it back up and let it get to operating temp, it maintained that for 10 minutes. Shut it off. Then I got to looking up different directions on bleeding cause it just kept coming out of the crossover, slowly but it still wouldn't stop.

Checked the lower radiator hose between the thermostat and radiator and it wasn't warm at all.

I've been up since forever and it's getting the best of me..Where did I go wrong?

What came out of the crossover? Coolant or air?

Fill expansion tank and cap, then fill crossover tube. Run for a while, even drive around to move air pockets into the crossover. Fill at crossover again. Repeat often and keep an eye on the expansion tank level. If you open the tank, have the crossover closed.

Coolant with a little air, but mostly coolant.The first time I left the crossover cap off and let do its thing, that's when the above happened. This last time I filled the res tank via the xover and capped it when it was full, I then continued filling the xover and capped that.

Its maintaining normal temp at idle. The lower hose between the thermostat and radiator is a little warm but not nearly as hot as the 2 connected at the crossover. I read that if it's done properly it should be hot.

I guess i'll go drive around and see what it does.

The lower should never be too hot. Its the return after all, the lower part of the radiator returns cool coolant. Upper hose should be hot. Never fill the expansion tank unless it needs it and make sure its not too full. When you open the crossover, coolant should come out when up to temp and the tank level will drop a little as the warm air in the tank expands from the drop in pressure, this will push coolant out at crossover. If you are not getting any air, you're fine.

Just drive and burp and repeat often. Take her a little off roading to really shake up any bubbles

edit: I would burp again in a week or so.

Thanks for all the help Unity. I just freakout when I've done something that'll effect the cars ability to do its job. Like getting my tail to work . I miss the days where I could tear the thing apart and not have to rely on it as a dd.

Anyways, just got back from a 15 minute ride @ op temp and it was fine. So now I can finally rest and eat something after an absolutely horrible day in which nothing got accomplished.

Good. You will be fine. Some air will not kill the engine, only when there is so much air the coolant can not properly go through the crossover.

But burp it again in a week by just opening the crossover when cool. Add coolant. When cool the coolant is contracted.
