Is there enough interest from members to post junkyard finds, i.e. pullapart from their area ? Pullapart has 16 yards so would members in each area of particular yard post pics of what is available for sale ? Is this a possibility ?

You could try making a junkyard-specific thread equivalent of the craigslist finds thread. I don't see it lasting more than a few months, sadly. The CL thread gets posts several weeks apart. I tried a "spotted" thread that lost it's flame after 2 months because no one ever matched themselves to others' pictures.

There are somewhat frequent junkyard and CL posts on the Facebook page if you can sift through the "what wheels r gud" and "which HIDs are the best" and "check out my plastidip crap" posts

Yes I just thought if there were enough interest members could/would post "sightings" at their local "u pull" or whatever so those looking for a part would have another avenue of finding parts. Oh well, worth a shot.

I don't visit the auto yards. The one guy that I know who religiously is at the yards looking for LS parts never comes on LVC anymore. Around my area, if you don't get to it the second they put the LS up on blocks he has already been there and breaking down.

Ever dropped a gold fish into a piranha tank before?

now imagine a freshly damaged Lincoln LS arriving at the yard!

Sadistically I used to have a tank with several of them and I would bi-weekly have to feed with gold fish. They caught onto me at the pet shop when I moved up to the pond gold fish, then they wouldn't sell me any more. Eventually there was only one piranha left, he died from a piece of hot dog. Something in hot dogs not good for piranhas I learned.

I tried to solve this problem in a slightly different way...I bought a spare LS for parts. No more searching thru junkyards, I'll just go out to the garage! First part I'm gonna remove is the engine. After that, who knows? Course it is POSSIBLE I might have spare parts on my spare LS so if someone asks for something, I can take a look to see if I can spare it. The car is a 2001 gray/gray V6 auto.

Came close myself to picking up an identical silver frost 01 for parts but bailed on the idea at the time.

That's all fine & dandy but my problem is I'd want a 1st gen lse as a parts car & I'd have better luck getting g struck by lightning than finding a 1st gen lse.

the problem with having a parts LS, is that a lot of the parts are time sensitive, AND the LS doesn't have weird one off problems, it has very common problems that plague a whole lot of the cars...

you could have ten parts LSs and still not ever have a good working part when you need one.

^ not like you'd say I'll buy another 01 and use it's clock spring when mine fails, that'd be like taking a shower and putting dirty socks back on.

Or worse . . . Dirty drawers

Last past week, trip out, late at night, coming around a bend cooking with some speed from a medium downhill grade, I filled 5 fresh pairs instantly when I ended up with trailer lock up while negotiating a black bear in the middle of the road. It was not fun! Scared me silly and took my breath away. Guardrails with drop off too close. Nothing like screeching trailer wheels in the middle of the night to fill your clean drawers instantly.

But what happens when they don't make clocksprings any more (besides selling the LS for a 370z)?

I'd bet most people won't fix it, desperate people will replace with used, and a few people will rebuild them. There are probably other cars with similar ribbons, some wire supply companies with suitable replacements, or try the phone cord trick

^ they already do not make anymore clocksprings for the LS oh Wiseman Frank!
The remaining available units are sitting in inventory on shelves waiting to be bought by guys like you and I .... after those are depleted it's fixing time ... which has already been done once on LVC .... Search for the thread if you'd like.
