I have 1 broken shock tower nut (or rod which ever is more accurate) on the passenger side. It creaks and squeaks like a sonofabitch, when I roll slow, turn the wheel, or go over bumps.

if any of you had to replace their shocks, where did you take it? And how much did you spend with parts and labor? I just hoping it isn't a $800-900 job.

After this fix, my LS is officially finished. I am not going to spend any more money on it. No paint job, cosmetics, or anything. The car is almost 11 years old 170K+ I'm going to ride it out in style. Keep my eye out later for a newer one with less miles.

Do you mean the cap that sits atop the shock? That piece can't be that expensive. Rock Auto has the mount for ~$50.

To replace the shocks you just need (in addition to the normal hand tools) a spring compressor and a friend. The shocks are (IIRC) around $80 a piece. You will need to do them in at least pairs; front or rear.

not the plastic cap, the actual rod or piece that is bolted at the top. Since this car is my daily driver and I work every damn day, I can't do any mechanical work myself. Because if I disable my car, or screw it up, I'm stranded. My mechanic is really quick, and unbelievably honest. So I'd rather pay the extra $200 and have it done, fast, correctly, and insured....plus he gives every customer a free vanilla air freshener, and raffle entry to win a Coach bag, hahah

This part, correct?

I like my LS(es) to smell like leather, not some tree air freshener!

my LS has smelled like some flowery carpet powder since I got it (I didn't do it) permeating from the trunk.

Yeah that piece, but I think the problem is what lies beneath that piece, or what connects to that piece. But of course I don't know $hit about $hit

The spring and shock are under the mount.

so about a $800 job huh?

I would hope not......

Remove shock
Compress spring
Remove upper mount
Reverse process.

If you're replacing the shocks (their labor) the total cost shouldn't be more than, IMHO, ~$600. Most independent shops charge anywhere from $25-$50 per shock for replacement.
