How hard are they to replace?... and how much you think I"m lookin at changing all the pads and rotors... the local service shop where a friend of mine works said they'd do it all for 500 bucks... including parts... doesn't sound that bad... but I've worked on the fronts before... machined the rotors with a friend... never did the back and not sure if I"m comfortable doing them... is a lot more work?
 
Depending on what kind of pads you get 30-50 for the front. The back is just as easy to as the front but you MUST use a specialized tool to compress the piston you can rent one from auto zone
 
Do them yourself. Trust me rears are cake as well as fronts.

IIRC for the rears you'll need a piston compressor that you can rent from your local parts place. Other than that it's easy.
 
Make sure you buy good quality rotors (Bendix or equal) as the cheap ones will give you alot of pedal surge after a while because of warpage. Also a good time to change out fluid in the system. I use Super Blue Dot4 as it is easy to spot the new fluid when bleeding the brakes.
 
Oh yeah and I kinda forgot not that it probably matters but it's a gen 2... so if I do them myself... I need to get the tool and that's about it?... I already just put new brake fluid like last year... I had to pop the master cylinder loose so we figured might as well change it then... how long you think it would take?... and how much am I lookin for in parts?... all the rotors... and pads... is R1 a good brand to toss in there?
 
I've gotten by with the cheapest rotors I can get. Performance of the brake pad is something you don't want to skimp on.

I like EBC GreenStuff pads, Hawk makes some good ones too.
 
If you decide to pay a shop $500, I'll drive up to Denver and do them for $475.

They're not hard, do it yourself.
 
I couldn't imagine going to a shop to have my car fixed... lol... my tools have paid for themselves many many times over.
 
Plus when you do it yourself you know what you did and did not do - and if you know what is to be done you know that you did it correctly!
 
I usually get my rotors for $30 each. I got good brake pads for $60 a pair. These part are most likely better then the ones they will put on. The rear brakes does require a special tool which you can get at auto advance(i think) which cost $100 to rent but they give back the full $100 when you return it(no time limit) so it doesn't cost you anything for that. So $240 total and a good 2 hrs of work.
 
i think the paint for that was around $5 at auto advance... i might end up doing that next time(gonna try white out to put lincoln or mark viii on it will that melt?)

Use Crayola Crayons, they should hold up better. Just don't use the Walgreen's brand Crayons, they'll melt right off.

I bought the rear brake tool and it was less than $13 ( I figured I would need to change them again sometime) at either Advance or O'Reilleys, either one will match price if one is closer than the other. Pads are almost always on Rock Auto and if you buy the best Monroe they come with a rebate, the last time I looked. Less than $65 for the front, rear are smaller should be cheaper. My .02cts worth.
