okay so here i am on the computer, while my husband is beating his brake piston with a screwdriver. i now know that they are screw pistons, and we will need to get a special tool, which i thank everyone so much for the info.

but he is wondering if they will screw back out again on there own? i am sure that is how it works, but it just seems kind of scary, what if it doesnt work that way?

rears only screw. yes they come out on there own. screw them in, put on the pads and set the ebrake a few times after (and only after) its all put back together. job done.

I assumed we were talking rear's here...correct? front are standard, compress with c-clamp style.

yikes, take the screwdriver and beat him with it lol j/k of course.

You can rent/buy the special tool from your local autoparts store like autozone, rather spend some money on the right tools or buy a new caliper?

front or rear there the phrase ''beating them with a screwdriver'' should never be uttered.
