Is this a master cylinder problem?

I'm referring to the creak. Happens about mid travel. Took a good 3 min of pumping the pedal to re-create the noise.

Anyone confirm? Any thoughts?

About to get my fluid changed after I get out of here.

Mine does the same thing, if I heard it right. Sounds like a spring?

Fluid changed twice in 3.5 years of ownership, full brake job ~2 years ago. Has done it ever since I had the car.

Yes, in a way. It has a crunchiness to it. Can you feel it in the pedal? It got so bad the other night it kind of felt like ABS.

Sound definitely increases with usage which worries me. I don't think my fluid was ever changed...

"Crunchiness" is often a master cylinder problem. Did you ever compress your caliper pistons without opening the bleeders? This can force dirty brake fluid back into the master cylinder and scratch the cylinder walls. Alternately, I suppose it could be the booster or the linkage between the pedal and the booster.

I'm assuming, if it was the linkage, it would do it all the time? I haven't touched the brakes since I've owned it. I'll change the fluid and go from there.

Well I isolated the noise and it is definitely the front passenger caliper. And it's getting bad.

I had a creaking/cable-grinding type noise from my right front passenger caliper. I replaced the front calipers and all is quiet.

Figured that's what I'll need to do. Needed a brake job anyway I guess. Did you find the specific cause?

I found this earlier.. http://www.cadillacforums.com/forum...2-driver-side-front-caliper-making-noise.html specifically post #2. Wondering if whatever that detailing place used on my calipers has something to do with this.

Nope, never did.

I thought it was just my driver side front one. When I broguht it to the dealer they said it was. Both front calipers and that most likely whoever had the car before me must have always used some kind of break cleaner which besides eating all the paint off of the calipers and caliper brackets probably made the calipers fail.

Well, as our calipers aren't painted...... How does using brake cleaner make the caliper fail?

If your not due for brake replacement just yet, why not just simply take it apart, clean it up, lubricate the slide pins and re-assemble, maybe new pads on both fronts.
the pins, just use brake clean on then, dry them then sand them down with fine sandpaper, clean out the caliper, relube and reassemble. Should quiet it down.

Doesn't work. I tried that and the cable-grinding sound persisted; it had no effect.

Just picked it up. New pads and rotors on the front. Rears still had plenty left on them. No noise yet, hope it stays that way. They also charged me $40 for a fuel filter, not including labor.

That loud of a noise (from the vid) sounds like a fair amount of resistance from a high amount of pressure that would be a lot louder than a cable.

Had same sound on my last two cars and lubing the sliders worked at least for a little bit on the one car the calipers were replaced. Yes the pedal felt a bit like crushing walnuts. Pulling up to a stop and random chick's wondering if that ol' Jalopy would stop in time. The eye contact was priceless
