Here's a simple pictorial from my adventures in brake pad changing this weekend. I did purchase the caliper paint, but it was too cold to use it. So, it will have to wait. The thread on how to change wiper blades will be coming soon . . . :D

I started with the fronts and of course destroyed a couple of lugs so make sure you have something else handy to use

I removed the bottom bolt on the front caliper, but of course there isn't enough clearance on the top bolt for my socket

Luckily the caliper can just swing up out of the way.

Two C-clamps push the pistons back in to make room for the new pads

Yeah, I definitely needed new pads. Not down to the metal yet, but getting close

I grease up the back of the new pads with high-temp grease. Supposedly it helps keep the squeaking down. I have no idea if it actually works, but it makes me feel better so I do it anyway.

Put it all back together and the fronts are done. Not counting the destroyed lugs it only takes a few minutes per side. I have the advancetrac warning so I checked the wheel speed sensors to make sure they are in place and they were. I have also purchased the Chrysler Sebring lug nuts to replace the LS OEMs. I've also learned that if I put the lug wrench on the nut and then tap it a few times with the hammer it helps reduce the carnage.

The rear is very similar, take the wheel off. Take the caliper off.

I got the tool from autozone

The H014 disk is the correct size. Here's a crappy pic of it.

And after much turning and cursing here is my opinion of rear brakes

Finally, I grease up the pads and put it all back together again

Thanks to the forum for supplying the part number for the Sebring lug nuts. I bought all 10 at the local parts shop. I will be getting another 10 from the internet. I forgot to mention that all of the wheel speed sensors appear to be in place. I'll have to do some more messing with it to fix that issue.

My happy car:

Are you getting both an ABS and Advancetrac warnings? If so, a wheel sensor is not a bad guess.
If you are only getting an Advancetrac warning, then the problem is not going to be a wheel sensor.

Nope, just advancetrac. When driving I will touch the brakes and immediately the advancetrac warning will show up. It doesn't always happen right away when driving but it always occurs in relation to braking. Even after it happens the advancetrac and ABS seem to function just fine.

Did I mention that I changed the oil and filter last week all by myself? Did you hear that Quik?

Thanks for the photo-by-photo replay..

My favorite is your thoughts on the rear brakes.. Hilarious.

Before long he'll be ready to change a light bulb for sure! :p

Or maybe even an air filter. Although rumor has it they are next to impossible to change on the 460 ci V8 equipped LSes like his. I'm surprised he didn't install a big brake kit to handle all that extra power and weight.

Did you remember to index the piston on the rear with the nubs on the pad backing?

Also, for future reference... take your old pad, center a singe C Clamp on it and compress... it will do both pistons at once. :)

Or you could be a man and just push them back with your hands like I did.

Who needs big brakes when you've got a black Johnson Rod?

Nope, I didn't think to index the rear piston with the nubs. I'll check into that tonight. A single C Clamp, I never thought about that. makes sense to me.

I can't believe you don't know about the johnson rod. I think LSKoncepts sells them. PM Pektel and he can fill you in on the details.

dude, you have that listed with your car as being a DEI, 460 big block with muffler bearings and vent holes... it's obviously a joke. I'm just trying to figure out what the punchline is!

Nate, those are ceramic muffler bearings, way more hp than non-ceramic!

Hey Rainjacks,

Did you have the rotors turned?
