bought my k&n fipk.

I have both the FIPK and Typhoon intake systems for my LS. Personally the Typhoon sounds a bit more aggressive probably due to it being metal. The 57 series muffles the intake growl a bit more.

They made the 57 series FIPK more expensive and try to make it more appealing because it is CARB certified. They had to spend thousands of dollars to get that certification and they have to get that money back on the sale of the product. If people asked which is better, neither, its all a aesthetic preference.

I also like how K&N claims the FIPK to gain like 1HP more than the Typhoon. With either system in the car you can not tell the difference from one to the other.

The Aircharger you are asking about I think is just the intake system itself is nicknamed that.

The metal tube of the typhoon will conduct heat; there by heating the air intake charge. Not that it will have a substantial decreas in performance. But it would be reasonable to assume under a normal summer day a 1-2 HP difference just due to the fact that plastic does not conduct heat nearly as well. So I'm sure their claim is accurate. You'll never FEEL a 1HP difference. Usually if you FEEL a 10 HP increase, its really just in your mind anyway.

Im with you Nate, with air coming in as fast it does through the K&N intake tube, the hot intake manifold or coolant heated throttle body will heat the air just as much. 1HP is definitely not noticable.

this things supposed to give 16 hp to the wheels.. can you notice that?

With the stock intake and either the FIPK or Typhoon it can be noticed. The biggest difference and best performance mod for this car is still the XCAL2, Exhaust is the least gain in performance.

The FIPK is well worth the $200 in my opinion, you made a wise choice.

xcalII will be purchased within the next week or two... just trying to figure out if i need tunes or what.. says it comes "stock".. but thats a whole other thread.

Good choice, just to add another pat on the back. And NateRW21 covered the difference between the two, metal can and will get hotter than the plastic (or whatever pseudo plastic material it is) one and under some conditions can heat the intake air more than necessary.

The sheet that comes with the CARB certified one shows a dyno run before and after on a T-bird, it's nearly 16 hp as someone mentioned before. Not bad.

I was surprised that the sound it made (I did mine before the exhaust) was more like I'd done an exhaust mod instead of an intake.....but a good sound.

16HP at the wheels would be about 19-20 at the crank; Given the factory power rating, 19-20 engine HP increase is a decent amount. Totally noticeable. Now if we were talking a difference between 800 and 820... you wouldn't notice.

.....What?

Am I reading this right an upgraded exhaust will NOT provide much of a gain. That I can barely believe.

Why do you think Magnaflow doesnt have a system for the 03-06 LS? When they tried their prototype they barely squeezed out 5 additional HP.

The 03-06 Exhaust has a different design than the 00-02 and is less restrictive.

Doesn't as of now.. But it is coming, now for how long it has been coming I have no idea. (from their website)

nice re. thanks.

Its been coming since late 2004. Everytime I call Magnaflow they tell me its coming soon and its been more than 3 years. They dont have the demand for it. They only have people like us on this forum that will buy this stuff.

jeez.. ls alone has over 100 active posters.... how many ls' were made? like 260k? wed advert for them.... im sure theyd mass produce.

what the hell.. who makes 8's with such a small amount of displacement? ford? i think thats it..

That's probably true now but before the LS I had a '95 BMW 530i which was a 3.0 Liter V8.... that's the same displacement as the V6 in the LS

Very true. I did mine only because I have a friend who does awesome exhaust work AND I wanted to HEAR the car when it was on. The stock exhaust was too quiet for my liking.

I have the three usual mods on my car with dyno numbers in my signature. Need to get another few dyno pulls after Torrie adjusted my tunes from the A/F info I sent him. Car definitely feels a lot more responsive over the initial 3 tunes I got from him. I'm gonna give the data logging thing a shot with SCT's Live Link program and see if I can get some more detailed info to him.

The 03+ LS Magnaflow exhaust system will never come out. Don't hold your breath. You're best bet is to have one custom made. At least this is what my Magnaflow rep is telling me.

if i wanted my car to have flowmasters... id buy an m3 or cobra..... not on an ls... def a mark.... never a ls... although im sure it sounds nice.... it just looks (sounds) odd im sure..
